Saz and Dave's travels
Not much to report today as it was very similar to yesterday! We had breakfast then went to do MORE shopping. Dave managed to lose his trainers while we were in Cambodia, leaving him with only his flip flops so he desperately needed to get some shoes. Finding size 12 shoes in asia is almost impossible so he decided to get some hand-made. This involved him staring at a Next catelogue for a long time then when he had finally selected the shoes he wanted they got him to stand on a big piece of paper while they drew around his feet. We were not very convinced this would work but they assured us the shoes would be ready that evening!
Dave went on to order another pair of swimming shorts and I ordered a white kaftan, a cotton skirt and a brown silk top. I also went to try on the dress I ordered yesterday but it was a bit big so they are going to refit it for me. We need to leave this place before it takes all our money! (although saying that everything we have bought - 1 dress, 2 tops, 2 swimming shorts, 1 coat, 1 skirt, 1 kaftan and a pair of trainers came to about 80 quid!).
At 2pm we went to the beach again with Zac and Rochelle where we got some mango and peanut brittle off the women who sell it on the beach. The women selling these things look so incredibly ancient they should be retired not carrying heavy loads up and down the beach! Most of the women here wear masks, long gloves and long clothing as they don't want to get brown as it's seen as more beautiful to be white here and you can even buy whitening cream in the shops! The women were really shocked when we told them in the UK it is the opposite and people actually buy tanning lotions.
After a shower we went to check out our clothes. The kaftan and skirt were great however the dress was still a bit loose so they are going to take it in a bit more for me. Dave's trainers were very small for him so their calculations weren't too accurate and they are going to have to stretch the shoes for him!
For tea we went to a different restaurant along the river (equally cheap - only about 1.50 quid for a main) then we went for some drinks and a game of cards at the cafe near our hotel that chucks out at 10pm!
