Saz and Dave's travels
Today was our last day in Hoi An as Dave, Zac and I were all booked onto the 1pm bus to Hue further North in Vietnam. We spent the morning picking up the rest of our clothes which were all a success - dave's shoes were finally big enough! We also had a final look round the old part of town in Hoi An (as seen in the photo). It was incredibly hot today and we soon got quite sweaty. We decided to get some spring rolls for lunch at about 12.15, thinking it would be a quick snack before getting on the bus, however at 12.55 our rolls had still not appeared and we had to get them take-away in a bag and leg it back to the hotel to get the bus. When we got on the bus we were all really sweaty and quickly stank out the bus with our spring rolls which had copious amounts of garlic in them! The bus was pretty packed and Dave had to sit behind a very rude girl who had her seat right back and wouldn't put it forward. However the beautiful scenery that we passed more than made up for this -mountains, ricefields and unspoiled coastline with hardly any development.
We arrived in Hue at about 4.30pm and then Dave and I donned our bags to try and find the hotel where Alia and Leo were staying. Zac took the easy option and got a motorbike taxi there! It was really hot and we walked quite a long way in the wrong direction before realising this - a fatal mistake with bags as big as ours, now even heavier with all the clothes we had bought in Hoi An! Eventually we found the hotel which was actually just round the corner from where we had started!
After a cold shower we went out to a little cafe for tea which was really cheap with great food then walked over the bridge to find somewhere to have a drink. However after walking quite a long way we had come across no bars and Alia suggested we got cyclos back to where we started. This was quite amusing as Dave and Zac shared one and the three girls shared another (amazing considering the cyclos are only really designed for one person!). We finally found a bar from one of our guidebooks where we all got a drink and played cards. Later when we had all gone to bed me and dave were woken up by the biggest arguments we have ever heard in an apartment near our hotel. People were screaming at the top of their voices and through the window we could see two men punching each other and then a man smashing all the glass in a door! It was all a bit frightning and we were glad when it stopped!
