Saz and Dave's travels
Today we got up at about 9am to make it down in time for our free breakfast of eggs, bread, jam, fruit and little pancakes, delicious!! I don't usually like coffee but here they have it with condensed milk which sounds gross but it's really nice (dad will be outraged!). We nicked some bread and bananas for lunch (well we had to make the most of a free buffet!) then headed off to look around the shops. Most of the shops have manequins wearing all the clothes the shops can make, then you go in and pick out the colour, type of fabric etc. Most of the clothes they can make and get back to you the same day!
I ordered a coat (green with gold silk lining - 20 us$) and dave ordered some cool swimming shorts (8 dollars). We were told they would be ready that evening so we decided to spend the afternoon on the beach. The beach is 5km away from central Hoi An so we decided to get motorbike taxis there which was a little scary but we got used to it and it was quite fun in the end. The motorbikes dropped us off at a small cafe on the side of the beach where they had old fashioned style deckchairs. The beach was gorgeous - the best we have seen yet. It was just so empty and underdeveloped with long white stretching sand and no houses, hotels, shops or bars just the odd couple of cafes. There were still women trying to sell you fruit and necklaces and stuff but not nearly so many as there were in Nha Trang.
We left the beach at about 5.30pm to go and have a shower and pick up our clothes. I was so happy as the coat fitted perfectly and Dave looked great in his shorts. At the coat shop I ordered a black silk dress (12 dollars) ooops but it was cheap!
We had tea with Leo, Alia, Rochelle and Zac in the old part of town by the river at the place we ate in last night. The old part of town is lovely with loads of little shops with paintings and lanterns for sale, restaurants with fresh fish, narrow streets and wooden-fronted buildings. At the restaurant we sat on the balcony which had a great view but it was a bit strange as to get there you had to walk past an old woman in bed and a girl watching tv - had to walk right through the family's house! After tea Zac played guitar for us and then we wandered over to the other side of the river for a drink (and chocolate pancake!). Later us girlies all had a trying on session with our new clothes in our hotel room while the boys watched tv.
