The adventures of Sarah & Brian
Hi,
Uluru (Ayers Rock) is boiling beyond belief. Got off the plane and it was like a hairdryer pointing at us...a hairdryer filled with flies!
Syated in a campsite (due to very expensive accomodation) and had to get up at 4 am everyday to avoid the ridiculous heat. Walked round the bottom of Uluru (about 10km) and towards the end i nearly lost my mind. My fingers were swollen like sausages and I thought my hand was about to explode. Very good though, much more interesting up close.
We got a 3 day bus pass and could go in and out all day, so got our full moneys worth by doing every hike there is and numerous sunset and sunrise viewings.
The 'Valley of the winds' walk at Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) was the best thing we did. It was pretty harsh and had to start it at 5am 'cos it shuts at 11am because of the temperature, but the views were amazing. Looked like the kind of landscape you would see dinosaurs walking round. Wouldn't have surprised us to see a diplodocus looming through the rock domes and trees.
From about midday to 6pm we mostly immersed ourselves in the pool or walked around the air conditioned shops. Anything else would have resulted in instant heat death!
In Cairns now - much cooler, but still red hot......see next postcard...
