The adventures of Sarah & Brian
Well Sydney was nothing but greyness and drizzle! We did have one sunny day, the day after we arrived which we spent wandering around the harbour cooing at the opera house and bridge.
The next day we took a trip on the ferry to a seaside resort called Manly, the boat trip is great, goes right up the harbour but shortly after we arrived it started raining, again. Aparently it was 45 degrees on new years day and basically has rained ever since. Its very wierd as it's the height of summer, and it's Australia for gods sake!
So we did some indoor activities, such as the aquarium which is ace and a couple of the museums.
We stayed in a hostel in trusty Kings Cross, the red light district where I lived (but not worked!) last time I was in Sydney.
The highlights were mostly food and drink related. Extremely cheap Chinese food in the food courts in Chinatown, and a cracking night out with Julee who we met up with a couple of times. Went out to a Japanese restaurant, which much to her delight was called JuJu's. You had to take your shoes off and sit in troughs in wooden pens on the floor. We then went for drinks in a couple of my old haunts, the Kings Cross Hotel which is utterly scummy and probably always was but I was generally too drunk to notice, and the goldfish bowl which has a quality video jukebox. After forcing Julee to drink too much, she finally managed to escape and me and brian got talking to some people....... then it all gets a bit hazy.......remember going to a club of some kind........talking to a bloke who resembled Peter Andre and calling him by that name long after it had stopped being funny.......then waking up with a stinking hangover for our last day in Sydney.
We had to check out at 10am so we took our bags up to the garden on the roof and promptly fell asleep on the floor (tramps!).
Our best day out was at the Blue Mountains, which are 2 hours by train from Sydney and really spectacular. It rained of course and at one point a mist descended so that we actually couldn't see a thing for more than a couple of metres in front of us, but it kept coming and going so we did get to see the views. Went on a very steep train ride on an old mining train - they play the Indiana Jones theme tune on the way down - ace!. Then went for a hike around looking at waterfalls and rainforest then got the cable car back up. Topped the day off with a drink in a beer garden as at this point it had become sunny and boiling, but another black cloud was quickly descending so we legged it to the train station and back to Sydders. V good.
I have attempted to put pictures on a couple of times, will give it another go now.
Take Care. XXXX
