So, i just got back from an amazing weekend in Zermatt. This was my first trip since arriving in Switzerland and it certainly lived up to my expectations! I went with the aupair group, which meant a bus load of excited girls for the whole weekend, which i have to say, i was quite apprehensive about! It took us a few hours of driving around scarily sheer cliffs to arrive and we made our way to the hostel. We staggered to the hostel with my stupidly designed bag. I was hoping for a nap as we had had an early start, but no such luck. Paul declared that we were to have lunch and then start our hike straight away. I opted for the hike which was supposedly easy, knowing my fitness levels! After a couple of hours of sheer agony, we arrived at a cute chalet where we had traditional apple strudel. We returned to the hostel as it was getting dark, unfortunetly some of the group got somewhat lost and ended up arriving an hour after everyone else!
The whole group went into town that night and had a few drinks. Liisa and i had been abandoned without realising it, and as the night was still young we went to a club and danced until the wee hours.
Unsurprisingly we were exchausted after only a couple of hours sleep, and the prospect of another day hiking was not appealing. However it was downhill hiking which i thought would be better. We took the gornergratt train up to the top and were met with unbelievable views, it really was stunning. After lunch we started our 3 hour downhill hike which was eventful to say the least! Involving nearly knocking my friend off the cliff when i slipped on some ice, and nearly giving up and taking the train back from exchaustion. I am proud to say however that i stuck it out, and arrived tired but very content back at the hostel. However the time had come to leave as we all had work in the morning. It was a really great trip and a good start to my travelling!
