I'm writing this two months later because we got home and couldn't tackle this for a while.
From Copenhagen, the mean lady at the train station who yelled at us wouldn't get us on an overnight ferry to Oslo (our original plan); we had to take the train through Sweden. So we changed the plan, and stopped for a few days in Gothenburg, Sweden. It's a university town that was having a youth soccer world cup while we were there. The city was fun and had really cool old neighborhoods, good food, and lots of pretty Swedish people! We found two places that looked over the whole city that were beautiful. Since we had to check out of our hostel on our last day, we locked our backpacks in the train station. We got back there with tons of time to spare, but then the schedule boards didn't show the train we thought we were taking. We waited in line at information forever to ask about a bus that seemed to be the last form of transportation out of Gothenburg. We were leaving because there were no hostel beds left in the city because of the youth soccer tournament, so we had to get to Oslo. We finally get our turn to ask, and the lady told us the last bus out was leaving in 2 minutes and no trains were running. After killing time in the station for way over an hour, we sprinted across the station and outside, and barely got on our bus in time, so out of breath. It was one of our many very close calls.
We got to Oslo successfully, which ended up being one of our favorite places. There was really good shopping, an amaaazing park around the royal palace, good cafe's, and the opera house was probably the coolest building we've ever seen. It's built so that you can walk all over it and the walls and roof run straight into the water. We spent a lot of time on that, taking pictures and tripping over the weird angles in the roof. We spent five days in Oslo, eating picnics in the park, lots of shopping, exploring, looking at Scandinavian design stores and museums, and taking pics. We both bought our biggest shopping purchases here, a pair of heels for me and Andrea's romper. There were a lot of really cool boutiques for really nice clothes, design and art, and hip hop boutique/sneaker stores. Oslo is a place I would love to go back to, even though all the locals we met couldn't believe why we would want to spend our Norway days in Oslo when we should be out in the fjords and beautiful northern country. We did try to check out the Oslofjord by taking a mini boat tour of it, but we got really sleepy on the boat and when we found the energy to pay attention, the tour pretty much just showed us some big commuter boats, new office buildings, and houses along the water.
We took the train from Oslo to Asgardstrand, the tiiiniest town, to stay with Ane Vilnes. Duffy stayed with her mom, Lillian, when she visited her in Asgardstrand in college. It was amazing to be in a house with a real bed, real shower, and real washer and dryer. Ane and her brother were really nice hosts, and the house was right across the street from the water. So I got to jump in the Oslofjord, with all the little jellyfish. One night we went out with Ane and a big group of her friends, all very Norwegian speaking and blond. We played Kings and went to a dance club that was straight out of Night at the Roxbury. It was soo much fun, but then we got stuck spending the night in our jeans in one of the girls' houses random extra rooms, when we really just wanted to be back in Ane's comfy house.
