Feeling hot hot hot!
Today has been breath taking! It started at breakfast when the couple I met last night donated £10 to my walk & Fiona at Nethergill contributed my pack lunch. Breakfast definitely set me up right for the day. That eggs and bacon will take some beating!
I sprung out the door and up the path where I had a brief emotional moment. Today would have been my Grandna's 80th so I sang a choked up happy birthday as u set off up the track.
The sky was clear in every direction and the sun felt fresh with the morning. The track I was walking turned into a peat bog, and stayed that way for about 5 miles. It was seriously slow going and took a lot of concentration to mind every step. I was trampling grass as high as my ribs in an attempt to bridge the puddles and every hundred yards negotiating a stream. My boots have been well and truly tested today, and so far, so good.
After passing through a pine forest I came to another track and had reached the highest point on the Dales Way. There was another cairn so I carefully balanced my pebble on the very top and proudly took a photo. Surprised by a text message, I realised I had signal and took the opportunity to call my grandad. The tears were beckoning again. The scenery was incredible as far as I could see. No photo can truly do it justice. At that point a particular song cane on my iPod that far better portrays what I was looking at, "I see your face in every sunrise. The colours of the morning are inside your eyes," and the chorus is simply, "You're beautiful." A bit of a soppy song but totally appropriate.
The track lead me to a road, which lead to a track, which lead to another peat bog. Damn! Over the top of a final hill then on the descent to Dent with views of the impressive Ribble valley viaduct.
I have been scorched! Despite applying factor 30 twice! I have decided that this is my Sumer holiday. I look like I've been to Malta!
In the Sun Inn tonight (love that!) Shared facilities (not so much.) From the ritz to the rubble... You can't have it all!
Dinner in the George and Dragon, gotta love a bit of free wifi and a Stowford Press (do I stay for another...? I think I've earned it) 17 miles tomorrow and another blistering day. Might try and find a non boggy or buggy, free of pats and pellets place to catch a few rays. Whoop... I will come back off my jollies with a tan!
Much love

debbie Hey, you're doing really well. By the way Dent is my mothers favourite place - never figured out why, but the surrounding countryside is lovely. Have a great day tomorrow XX
