I am offically hard code trekker! Today Will and I spent the day on Rangitoto a small Island off main land Auckland. We got a ferry over.. see pictures... and ended up on a 6 mile walk around the Island... but it wasn't just an Island no... a Volcano to be precise!!
The Island was formed after a volcano eruption under the ocean 600 years ago brought all the rock to the surface.. it has history of settlements and WW2 history but now has no permanent residents.. not even a shop! Basically we loved it as it was preetttty! Take a look at the pictures from today.. it ended up being a really lovely day.. about 23 degrees.. although hazy and windy at times it was def shorts and t shirt weather! So much so we thought we were fine.. til we got back a few hours ago.. showered and realised we were burnt! b*****! The Island seemed massive and there was no one for miles other than us on the trip, walked for miles and my feet and legs are killing me now! Worth it for the AMAZING views of Main Land New Zealand though! Oh and as the Island is a volcano.. the sand was black! Weird hey!
Walking back from the ferry through central Auckland there was a massive Christmas party and parade going through the streets.. still can't get used to this heat and Christmas decoratations!!
Will is very proud I managed to walk up a volcano.. 850ft I may add! Think my walking boots are abit more walked in now.. considering the only time I used them previously was in my house at home!
Anyways chilling tonight then up mega early to check out of Auckland and head to the Bay of Islands, further north.. google it.. it's full of beaches, water sports and backpackers! We can't wait :)
