Hello from America!!
We are having such a good time already :)
So we have spent our first five days in New York and its been brilliant!
We only really got to our hotel late afternoon on the first day so just spent that evening walking round Central Park and around Park Ave, 5th and Madison. Went for a really nice Italian meal then we are pretty sure we saw Kim Cattrall!
Day two we took the Circle Line boat round the entire island on a three hour trip! Really good as we got to see all the main sights and get to grips with the island. We then walked around Times Square and visited the New York Public Library which was amazing! Popped into Grand Central Station which is really something. That evening we went to a Mets baseball game which was really good. People just eat and eat and eat and eat....we joined in naturally and the game was great, even though the Mets lost!
Day three we had to move to our new hostel which is in an old Spanish area but its nice and the landlord Santos is really really friendly, giving us beers etc! We then went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was amazing, absolutely massive and very interesting. We then got caught in a huge rainstorm but luckily it didn't last for very long! We had pizza in Bryant Park for dinner then spontaneously decided it would be a good time to go up the Empire State! Only I went up as James couldn't quite face the height. It was amazing though and I randomly had a photo taken up the top with the British Navy! Lovely chaps :) Then for the rest of that evening we just walked round Times Square which has such a good atmosphere. We also randomly got asked to record a short video message for some Chinese girls friends Astley and John in Turkey who were getting married!! Quite awkward and embarrassing but we did it anyway!
Day four we got up nice and early and took the boat to Liberty Island to see the statue which was good then went over to Ellis Island, also very good and interesting. After this we walked to Wall St and saw the Stock Exchange then saw Ground Zero, very difficult to appreciate the scale of it as the reconstruction work is really taking shape, its going to be really spectacular when it is finished. We then went to Chinatown and sampled some noodles followed by Little Italy, Soho and Greenwich Village. We walked to Washington Square and saw some really funny entertainers which was a nice end to a busy day!
Day five we went to the American Natural History Museum which was really good and again very big! Next we walked through Central Park and saw some live music which was nice and then walked to the Dakota building where John Lennon was shot, apparently Yoko Ono still lives there. Next we went to Tiffany & Co - the one used in Breakfast at Tiffany's, this was my choice! Also went to Bloomingdales, again my choice. Next we went to St Patrick's Cathedral and there was a wedding taking place so we watched it! Saw the Rockafella Centre then decided to go back to the hostel to get ready to go out for our last meal in NYC! Headed to Washington DC first thing in the morning so will try and update in a few days!
Hope all is well back in Blighty :)
Love to all
