Hey all,
Sorry this is so overdue! So, we are now in Canada!! Arrived in Toronto yesterday morning after a 13 hour coach trip and a tedious customs process to get over the border, involved everyone getting off the coach with their luggage to be individually checked then board the bus and wait, and wait, and wait to then have all our passports checked again!! Thorough at least!
So anyway, what have we been up to since the last entry...well Saturday morning we left NYC and managed to get on the 7am bus to washington which was great as it meant we got there at just gone 11am!
Our hotel was really nice in Washington, we managed to get a free upgrade to a massive room as our original room had not been cleaned, result. Free breakfast of waffles was pretty nice too :)
So we managed to see EVERYTHING in two days, including; White House, Lincoln Monument, War memorials, Musuem of American History, Holocaust Musuem, Natural History Museum, Sculpture garden, Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court...........and also we saw Barak Obama in his transit on the way back from congress as we were sat outside a puc having
a pint, as you do!!! Very random but hugely exciting :)
Anyway, we then took a ten hour coach overnight to Boston which was fine, im managing to sleep pretty well on them, james is struggling slightly given his height :(
Given the long journey, we were pretty pooped when we got to Boston so we had a chilled day starting with lunch and sunbathing on the common, then had a little wander followed by some shopping. Our hostel was a 30 min train ride out of the city centre so we bought a chinese locally and ate in the hostel, however it was the weirdest chinese ever! I had chicken with cashew nuts which involved about a million cashews, little bits of chicken, and LOADS of diced carrot and celery and basically no sauce at all! James had curry chicken which was EXACTLY the same as mine, minus the nuts! Rubbish but funny!
Next morning we had breakfast on the common and walked round the famous Quincy market which is loads and loads of food stalls selling every type of food possible. Then we took a boat over to the Navy area to see some old
ship USS Constitution and the museum attached, actually pretty boring but the boat ride was good and it was all free with our train passes! Also it was STUPIDLY hot this day so we were trying to find things inside! We then went for a pint of Samuel Adams (Bostons beer) in 'Cheers' - well actually just a bar near the market which recreates the film set of the programme! We then had some dinner from the market and then sat by the Frog Pond on the common with our feet in the water until some scary woman shouted at us "GET OUT OF THE WATER"!!!! She shouted at everyone tho not just us, including tiny little kids! Mean lady.We were then on our way home when we stumbled upon an outside production of Othello randomly! There were loads of people with picnics and the whole thing was free! We also got chatting to a girl who's sister goes to Bucks New University (where James goes!) random!!! Anyway, we kept waiting for the play to begin but it was taking too long so we left!
Next day we did the famous 'Freedom Trail' with some really funny guides. It
was really interesting and good. Following this we had a Boston speciality for lunch - Clam Chowder served in a bread bowl, which was lovely!! We then did some more walking around and then it started raining so we took refuge in a sports bar, but as we were leaving a thunder storm started so we were persuaded to stay and got two pints bought for us by a drunk Irish man! Once the rain stopped we headed to another pub for some dinner followed by an ice cream and walk round the common again.
Next day we had to check out then headed to town and had some thai for lunch, we then sat in some gardens for ages which was nice. We then headed to Harvard to see the university which was good. And then it was time to head to bus station and prepare for the long long journey to Toronto...and here we are!!!
Yesterday we just walked around and sat by Lake Ontario and then went to see the CN tower in the evening which was nice. James is not keen on going up it as its 553 meters tall!! Also the elevator is
glass and the floor at the top is also glass! I am going to go up if we have a clear day as apparantly if its hazy you cant see anything!
Now we are in an Irish pub near the waterfront as James is watching Chelsea and I am doing this! Think were gonna take the boat over to Toronto Islands afterwards and have a picnic and maybe a bike ride! Then its off to Niagara Falls tomorrow!!!!!
So as you can tell were are having an AMAZING time here and still lots of exciting things to come!
Sorry this is so long but just want to tell you all everything!
Im going to try and put some pics up now :)
Hope you are all well,
Lots of love
