Today was Amish day! Yayyyyy!! :D Today was actually pretty interesting. I didn't take any pictures, because it's considered disrespectful to take their picture (they don't really like having their picture taken) but I DO have a postcard! Yay!
Sooo, today Aunt Gloria had to work so I stayed home until about 11, then she came back and picked me up so we could go to Sugar Spring/ Dutch Valley to see the Amish people. First we stopped for lunch at this FANTASTIC restaurant. It was all Amish cooking, and the food was supposed to be home grown. I had a Strawberry salad with chicken, and sweet baby Jesus it was fantastic. It had Ramen noodles instead of croutons, fresh strawberries and pecans. The dressing was actually strawberry jam! And in peanut butter and jelly jam! Brilliant! And speaking of PB&J, they served rolls (fantastic, of course) and instead of butter they had peanut butter. I think it had honey in it (mmmmm…). Post-lunch we wandered from shop to shop, and I ended up buying and apron with a built-in cloth, a tissue box cover, a tea towel and some strawberry fruit dip for my mom, a set of matching Siamese cat salt and pepper shakers for Terry, some apple butter and Cajun spice mix for my dad, and some cheese for Stefan. Cheese probably sounds lame, but this wasn't any old cheese. Oh no. This. Was. SPARTA CHEESE. Jk lol. No it was green cheese. Or moon cheese, specifically. It tastes like American cheese, but it's green. Is that awesome or is that AWESOME? Epic win, I know. And Aunt Gloria got a Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band lunchbox for me, which she's gonna ship to me for Christmas J (End blog entry with awkward cut off).
Things I learned today: A) Amish people wear crocs and tennis shoes, B) Amish people make GREAT food (specifically salad), C) Amish "courting" consists of a boy visiting the girl after her parents have gone to bed (THAT'S SAFE.), and D) Amish do not use contraceptive- e.g. birth control or condoms- or believe in abortions for any reason.
