Got to Canton, Ohio yesterday. Today we went to Cleveland and went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Museum. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was pretty cool. It was a giant glass pyramid (like the ones at Moody Gardens in Galveston), and inside there were 5 levels (I think…?). Bottom level was something (don't know what.). Second level was admission and the gift shop (didn't even have any Black Keys CDs -.-). Third Level is all the clothing and instruments used by famous people. Fourth Floor is Hall of Fame Inductees, which really was only a movie (an hour and twenty minutes long- needless to say we didn't watch it). There was also this thing for Another Brick in the Wall. It had this big white wall with a huge monster thingy, a mold-kid, and a professor with super long legs hanging down the Wall. On the Giant Wall, written in (I guess) Pink Floyd's handwriting was the reason why he wrote the Brick in the Wall songs. I didn't really get it but it was something to do with the magic of his music being dissolved by his popularity, and him spitting in a fans face (that may have been a metaphor, I couldn't really tell), and then he just went home and released all of his anger into one angry set of songs. I would've taken a picture but there was a strict no photos policy. >.< Anyways, after that was the "Women Who Rock" floor, because they have a changing exhibit, and that was the current one. It was pretty cool, because it had Meg White's suit from the cover of Icky Thump, and Madonna's… suit. Thing. The slutty gold Viking suit. You know. That one. Also there were some of Britney Spear's thongs and what not. All in all the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a pretty legit place. It was a little long and droning since I'm not into the basics of rock (e.g.- 40's/50's/60's music), and I wish I could've taken pictures, but it was otherwise cool. J
After leaving the R&RHOF we went to the Galleria (nothing like the huge mall in Houston, this one was a small food court and nothing more) to get lunch. On our way there, a homeless guy told us the factory he worked at had suddenly fired him, and 100 or so other people without notice. He offered us a newspaper, and asked if we would buy one in order to help support him and him family. The guy seemed like an innocent guy, so Uncle Roy gave the guy 5 bucks, and we went to lunch at a little café.
The Science Museum was a fun place too. More aimed towards kids, but totally worth it. It was like the Whittie only 10x more things to do. The downstairs was a little boring, but upstairs there were all these cool toys and things to do. The best part of all was the rainbow shadow. I don't really understand how it worked, but instead of having one black shadow, you had three shadows: one red, one green, and one blue. It was fantastic.
Things I learned today: A) Meg White and Jack White are ex's, and have been since before they formed The White Stripes, B) Madonna was the lead singer in the band No Doubt, and C) Zucchini Bread is sweet, like banana bread.
