Hi All,
I'm back in London after completing my 29 day tour of Europe. I'm still buzzing from my tour although feel exhausted after so much partying and travelling. I'm at Kathryn's and looking forward to a chance to relax.
My last blog entry was in Prague. Since then I have travelled to Germany, Switzerland and Netherlands. On our last night in Prague I had a 4:30am start in order to travel to Munich for Octoberfest. On the way to Munich I was sick with a gastrobug which has gone around most of of our tour. That bus trip was spent throwing up with frequent stops to the toilet. Unfortunately by the time I arrived at Octoberfest I was still really sick so I caught a taxi back to the hotel after only an hour. Our tour had t shirts made up with Superman logos and the word 'superdrinker' across it. I thought it was quite ironic sitting outside a beerhall throwing up when I hadn't even drunk anything! Everyone that walked past just assummed I was drunk. Despite being sick I'm still glad I went to Octoberfest and I'll have to go another time....and actually drink some beer!
Luckily this bug only lasted 24 hours and so I felt fine the next day. We travelled Switzerland via Vaduz the capital of the tiny country Liechtenstein. We spent a bit of time in Lucerne before stopping overnight in the Swiss Alps. The scenery is spectactular and definately somewhere I'd like to return to. The next day we caught a train to the snow covered Jungfrau mountain. Unfortunately the weather was really bad and so we didn't see much from the summit nor could we do any of the planned activities. But we had alot of fun visiting the snow palace and having snow fights. That night we had a red and white party (Colours of the Switzerland flag) in the campsite nightclub with two other tours. I ran into Rhia (Nadines sister) and we had a good catch up and partied together. We'll catch up again at the end of October when she returns to London.
The next day we had a long day of travelling back to Germany to St Goar via the university town of Hiedelberg. This stop was mainly in transit before heading to Amsterdam the next day. On our way to Amsterdam we visited Edam and saw how clogs and cheese is made. We also went on a bike ride through the town which was loads of fun, although a bit scary since I haven't riden a bike in so long! I almost crashed into an elderly man on a bike! That night we arrived in Amsterdam and went to the red light district. This whole area was a real eye opener, sex and drugs are much more accepted. The prostitutes can rent out windows in the street and stand 'presenting' themselves. When the curtians are closed you know the room is 'occupied.' Apparently these prostitutes have a union supporting them and get tested every 3 months which is funded by the church.
We went to a 'coffee shop' and had some 'space cake.' One of the boys I was with had some 'mushrooms' and spend the night thinking he was a cat. I shared a room with him and he kept making cat noises and preening himself like a cat until the early hours of the morning. After my 'space cake' I thought this was absolutely hilarious and so I was laughing at him all night. There were 2 other people in the room trying to sleep who weren't very impressed :) I had to buy them drinks the next day to make up for it.
The next day I went on a Canal Bike with 3 other ppl. These are bikes that you pedal in the water. It was quite a workout and I was happy for the boys to take over after about 5 mins! We went to Anne Franks house which was fantastic as I had read her diary as a child. I re-purchased it as I want to read it again now. I went to The Van Gogh museum which was good to see some of his famous artworks. That night we went on a canal cruise followed by dinner at a chinese restaurant. After a quick rest we all headed out at about 11:00pm to a nightclub called Royalty for our last nights celebration. After about 1 hours sleep we boarded a bus then a ferry back to London. After arriving late at the hotel in London I was so tired I stayed with the others at the hotel. Although our tour had ended most people were staying at the hotel in which we departed and arrived and so it felt like a continuation of our tour. The next day we all went to a day club called 'The Church' which was a very intense club filled with lot's of travellers. You have to purchase drinks 3 at a time and they put them in plastic bags which you hold or tie onto your pants. There were alot of drunk ppl there and some of the boys got kicked out early. We left and travelled to Sheppards bush to the Walkabout Pub. I spent another night at the hotel with the others before finally saying goodbye and heading to Kathryns.
I feel sad that the tour has ended and will miss all my friends that I have made. Over the last month our tour became so close as you are living together and get to know each other so well. Luckily there a quite a few of us staying on in London and so I haven't said goodbye to alot of my friends from the tour just yet. I plan on catching up with them over the next month. Despite feeling sad that the tour has ended I'm also excited about the next month in London. Kathryn is 37 weeks pregnant and her belly is huge and it is expected that the babies will come soon. I'm so excited about becomming an Aunty. I'll let you all know when the babies come.
Hope everyone is well,
Love Sarah
