We were advised by Helen at the Glebe to take the coast road to Fox so we did and went Via Wanaka. On our way out of Queenstown we went to Arrowtown. It's a lovely little homestead village and had some cute shops and restaurants. We got some sweets from the weigh shop and carried on to a local winery. Had a tour of the vines and they were having problems with frost in the region and were using Helicopters to move circulate the warm and cold air to combat this. V clever. The tasting was not to my taste (or anybody elses really) and we picked up some goats cheese and Liz got some prezzies for people back home and we pushed on to Wanaka.
The views on the coast road are stunning and when we pulled into Wanaka via the information centre you are greeted by a massive lake with an amazing Vista and a v small town. We had a walk around the shore and had a chat with the ducks and found our bed for the night. Our initial room was not too great so I asked Avril (our host) if she had any other accom. She had a house available for a little more. We took the house. Once the place had been de-bugged we headed out for a walk. Had a few beers and chewed the fat about what we were going to do (which took up most of our time) and decided that we should head back, chill out, eat and push on to Fox the next day. We went back to our house, found that the door was open (everything was Ok) and we later found a nighty which led us to think that the place may have been rented out for something else maybe??
Anyway we had dinner at The Reef restaurant as it was in our travel guide. Was packed and we just got a table. Wish we hadn't it was very poor but the sunset over the hills kinda made up for it but not quite..Went home, watched some trash telly with a glass and went to bed..
Pushing on to Fox tomorrow...Hope it is better...
