Early start today, met a tour group for a bike ride around the Tuscan countryside. Among with 10 other tourists we boarded a mini bus which took us to the outskirts of Florence where we were decked out with a mountain bike, helmet and water bottle. The start was not at all impressive with a very steep long hill. I ended up walking the hill as my gears were too low and struggled! (Brett thinks he had me as he powered up the hill like a snail). We rode around mainly up hill which was quite tough for about 15 kms before reaching a winery where we were met with a three course lunch and some wine tasting. We also got a tour of the vineyard showing us how they made their wine and olive oil. After that we were back on the bikes for a further 15kms fortunately mainly downhill however there was a 3km climb in which gelati was the prize at the top. Needless to say I flogged Brett up this hill! We certainly deserved our gelato. We headed back to where the buses dropped us, down some seriously steep hills(was quite daunting). We said our goodbyes to the rest of the group(all American only one couple from Canada) one couple gave us a few tips for New York and Las Vegas also. Fair to say we were both pretty tired when we returned to the hotel around 6. Quiet night in order, headed to a woodfire pizza place for dinner.
