Sawadikaaa!! That means hello (the only thai we seem to know) from the Thai Islands!! First stop was Krabi which isnt actually an island but its the mainland beach that leads to some of the islands...Krabi is a very small but nice fishing village, we only spent two days here and one of which we headed to Ao Nang a nearby beach and spent the day soaking up the sun. I decided to go for a walk down the beach and found a family of monkeys near the rocks...i then got very excited and made Vicki come down to see them ha. They were alot friendlier than the minkeys we saw in Vietnam so much so that one decided to jump on my head and start eating my necklace and bag very cool!! However the problem came when we wanted to leave tge monkeys but i still had one on my head...a dutch giy said just walk up the beach and he should jump off, at first he didnt move as i was walking and i staryed to pabic a little but the guy was right eventually he ran back to his family!! Oh and we spent about an hour speaking to one of the thai ladys who offer massages and beauty treatment and because we made her laugh she gave us a free pineapple win win so all in all it was a good day :-)
Next stop was Koh Samui our first island. Overall we werent too keen on this island as it was very touristy and busy. Our first day was stormy so we decided to wander around the shops and we managed to buy pur fluroescent clothes for the half moon party...Vicki didnt offend anyone with her haggling this time hehe As it was sunday we found a very nice Scandinavian restaurant and had amazing pad thai and green curry there whilst watching spurs beat man city!! hehe As we wetent too keen on this island we only stayed tow days so the second day the sun was back so we had a lazy day on the beach :-)
The next island on the agenda was Koh Tao which we loved!! We really arent exaggerating when we say this was paradise...its a realyy small island so you are always 2mins walk from the beach, its very relaxed and ypu can spend every evening chdrinling and watching the sunsets which again are probably the best weve ever seen and in the evenings there are fire shows and great food. WOur friends recommended a great burger bar on the beach they wd huge burhers and literally amazing we ate there 3 time...on one occasion this was two nights in a row bit naughty ha!! On oir first night we met up with 2 of our friends we met in Vietnam so they showed us the good places to eat which was handy and we finished the night with pancakes from a street stall and honestly this man should enter britains got talent as he is the fastest pancake maker weve ever seen...his mulritaskingvis amazing he takes orders whilst chopping and throwing bana skins its soo funny to watch and the pancakes are amazing and about 30p!!
So most of our time in Koh Tao was spent scuba diving...we had met alot of people who recommended the open water diving course but we were both a little scared...Vicki because she thought she was going to die from an air embolism and me because i thought i would panic and spit the regulator out but we decided to go for it aand we both loved it!! its quite possibly the highlight of the trip so far :-) Everything you see underwater is incredible and it really is an adrenaline rush when you are down there!! The four day course involved theory and practical...for the theory we had to watch videos, compleye homework and complete a final exam...not what we expected to be doing whilst travelling but we both got 100% in the exam and got a free beer for our success! our first day was spent in the pool getting used to breathing underwater, swimming with fins and buoyancy and skillas training. we had to learn how to clear our masks underwater, share air supplies with your buddy and exhale whilst locating your regulator...all very scary at first but the instructor helped you and you quickly got the na hang of it. We then had four different dives in the sea we went to Mango Bay Japanese Gardens White Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle... we had a very small chance of seeing a whale shark but didnt...in a way this was probably good as often people panic when they see these and syart trying to chase the shark!! We did see a trigger fish which was cool and hundreds of very colourful fanilies of fish so it was amazing!! We are both definetly hooked on diving and cant wait to do it again!
After completing and getting our dive license we went for drinks with pur instructor...we found we were drunk after 4 beers i think from all the air pressure so we were in bed by ten!! hehe
Our last few days in Koh Tao wete spent relaxing on the beach with some friends we met and on pur last night we decided to go and see a ladyboy cabaret show which was hilarious!! You will get the idea from our photos of what it was like...some of the men were better dancers than we could ever be...bit upsettinfg hege.
Anyway thats part one of the islands...our final island was Koh Phangan for the half moon party so another blog post will follow for this!!
Missing everyone lots xxx
