Hopped on another internal flight and before we knew it we were in Ho Chi Minh. Gone were the peaceful towns and beaches instead being replaced by the sounds of the hustle and bustle of the city. When we eventually found our hostel after a lot of wandering down dodgy lanes we dropped our bags and headed out to explore.
We hopped into a Taxi and went to see the infamous Chu Chi Tunnels. After a quick video on the war (from the Vietnamese point of view!) we got to see some of the traps and hiding spots that the Viet Cong used. The girls decided to try it out but for fear of getting wedged I decided to skip that one! We were then brought down to the tunnels, we had to crouch the whole time as we saw how people would have slept and cooked in these tunnels. I was delighted when we finally got out of the tunnel it was dark, cramped and the heat was overpowering.
The next morning we joined a tour to take us out to the Mekong Delta. Here we got to try local fruits and honey tea, after seeing how coconut toffee was made we got to sample it and was kindly offered, but quickly refuse, the chance to taste snake blood whiskey. We did take them up on the offer to hold a snake and bees, a little wary to begin with but its all in the name of a good photo op! To finish the tour we were brought around some of the delta canals in a traditional canoe.
The tour dropped us back in HCM, but we were on the move again. This time there was no fancy flight, we were about to experience our first overnight bus.
