A clear day in Lima
No hot water, still no hot water and no hot water. After a while they got there s*** together, but at 4pm so you would hope so. The breakfast was possibly the laziest we have come across. Cold coffee, no tea and just a bag of bread rolls on the bench. Today in Lima it was actually clear, with some blue sky, so we walked to the beach.
In Miraflores, on a sunday, they close the main road from 6am to 12 so everyone can ride bikes and play sports. it's a great idea and everyone loves it. We picked up a coffee and hot chocolate for Sarah and started walking. The hot chocolate was a syrup, it's so thick I think it was a sauce for churios. We ran into our peruvian friend from yesterday and it turned out we are headed for the same place. We talked and learnt about all the different food types in Peru and where they originated. They also specialise in a type of Chinese which we cant wait to try, a spicy peruvian/Chinese style!
We arrived at an amazing shopping centre on a cliffs edge and just stood around looking off the edge for a while, admiring the view. The beach is about 150m below, with the waves crashing in a 2km long break.
We headed to Mangoes for lunch which has a Peruvian buffet with all types of cuisine... the buffet included, ceverche, prawns, beef carpaccio, avocado con pollo, shellfish/muscle, scallop, pickled fish, salmon, to start, then hot food of roast chicken, pig roast, guinea pig, seafood paella, aji de gallina (peanut type sauce) many types of beans, lomo saltado (similar to a beef in soy) grilled veg, calamari, popcorn chicken, and a huge desert bar. Wash this down with a bottle of white and a great ocean view and its like we are at soda lounge in Western Australia again, but Peruvian.
We walked along the coast and along to the Parque de Amo, or park of love. Unfortunately we had to taxi home because I couldn't walk on my foot anymore.
The rest of the day was spent researching and playing games. I also watched Brasil v Spain with two Chileans, it was fun. I booked Santiago accommodation for when mum and dad are here, played jenga, snakes and ladders (thanks lu), cards and pisco sours, 2 for $3.
