Sexywoman!!
We met Cusi for the first time in the early afternoon at 1pm. He came to the hostel to run through what we needed and the plan for the trek. We all hit it off really well. His English was perfect and we had a good joke to each other. The four day trek was to be made one day longer with a local village visit. We knew this but what we didn't know was this village is where our porters are from, the locals their family and the children their kids. This was an amazing surprise which we all loved. The next surprise was that our group was just the four of us, and Jose. We would be actually be a private tour for the cost of a group. We got our details and were all excited by the time he left.
We decided to go to some Inca ruins just above the town for a taste of what's to come. So we headed up towards the ruins of sexywoman (Saqsaywamán). On the way up the Jill was a church with a large plaza out the front that served as a lookout. We took some photos (attached) and headed for the large slog up the hill. First the road, then the cobbled road/walkway, then Inca stairs. We arrived to the entrance where it was ment to be S/120 to enter, about $48. However the entrance fee for the three others was only S/40, I'm sure went into their pockets but who cares.
We got our first views of the sexywoman ruins, a massive jagged stone wall with no mortar inbetweeners the tonnes of rock. As we stood there lookong along the wall the strangest thing happened. The only was to explain it is to say it was a tour group of dogs. We took it in turns talking for the dogs, making some stupid remarks and laughing our arses off. After a fair while we decided to your it ourselves. We walked along the huge rock walls looking at the sizes of each rock. The biggest rock weighs more than 300 tonnes and the wall contains 22 zigzag teeth. It was designed to be the head of a jaguar with the city behind being the body. the zigzag style were the teeth however it also acted to break the enemy's lines. The other side of the teeth is the high ground and behind this is a cliff and now a lookout to the city. The last stand of an Incan relative was here.
We moved to the lookout on the other side to the teeth to get a great view of the main ruins. Behind this lookout is the circular ruins of a large water storing structure with Inca seats carved into the stones.
We then went through a gap in the teeth for a closer look at the wall, the fortifications and simply how grand it is. all the stones were bought here somehow. From here we walked to the cross for a view of the city and walked back down.
We decided the really cheap drinks at Loki were too good to miss so we headed up there and waited for an old carnival friend to join us, Jenny (she bought a friend Alex who was great fun). A few quiet drinks later and we headed out to the top restaurant in Cusco...... Which was full so we went to its brother, Baco. Amazing food but Jenny had an allergy from something earlier, and thus she ran out sick and left for the night, never to be seen again,...... by us,..... For a while anyway.
