Quito to Banos
Sarah rose early at 6 to wash her hair and pack some more for the 6:45 pickup to the airport. We said our goodbyes and she left after the knock on the door from a taxi.
I read from then on. After some research I took an hour long taxi to the Quito bus terminal, I'm not sure it still is Quito if its an hour out.
At first the driver tried to overcharge me but after a quick negotiation we came to a deal. From here on he tried to be my best friend and gave me his number for anything I want when I return to Quito.
I picked up my bus ticket and tried to find the bus. This was a lesion in geography, the tickets were sold by place name but the busses are in regional areas. It didn't help they parked it in another area just to confuse tourists. The direct bus I got on was nice, stopping directly when people put their hands out. I really don't mind as it makes some sense to fill up the bus but why say it is direct in the first place.
I met an interesting guy on the bus, an Englishman, he started in southern England and is heading via South America and a few other small stops to Australia, and finally to live a year in Melbourne... Almost the reverse of mine.
We arrived and i headed to the hostel named 'Great hostel.' It really was difficult since i was following the wrong directions, what a great system it is where it's wrong in everyway..... Only about 6 blocks off in a small town. My favorite part was 'head churchwood' in a location where you are unable to see a church! I found the place (after first finding the tourist information place) and got into a four bed dorm. The interesting part of this hostel is free dinner, so I went and registered for the free dinner straight away. It was vegetable risotto, sounds cheap and nice. I sat down to a few beers with a diverse group, with an American pilot and an English group of 4 friends (a couple, a long term traveler and a very funny 6ft7 blond guy who was just set off for two months. It was great as During the beers i convinced a few of them to ride to the waterfalls tomorrow. I was adding safety that we know Lance should have. At the time I didn't think of the remarks I would get, riding with the British, I guess it's been a while between drinks for them.
