We're so lucky we got to the islands when we did we had no idea when the full moon party was and it just so happened that it was the day we arrived!! The full moon party was on Ko Phangan so we had to get a speed boat from Ko Samui, where we were staying, to Ko Phangan. It was so much fun, an amazing night, I dont think i've ever raved so hard! A great atmosphere as well.
There was no pain on the feet because most of the time we were dancing in bare feet on the sand. There was no getteing overheated because when we did we could just go and paddle in the sea. There was no broken glass because everyone drinks out of buckets. Theres even a designated sleeping area. This area however was not needed by me and Emma but everyso often me and emma would go and have a giggle at everyone sleeping there! There are dj's all the way down the beach playing lots of different sorts of music and also body paints which me and emma got into in a big way... Then at the end of the night or rather the beginning of the morning as it started to get light we got a speed boat home to our island- beats getting the 134 night bus!!
The only thing that doesnt change partying in different countries is the morning after.. As you can imagine we woke up a bit worse for wear. Our dresses and skin covered in paint. Sand everywhere and a lost room key.. But after a full breakfast and plenty of coffee things started to come together. We spent the rest of the day sprawled on sunbeds recovering. That night we went to a really cool restaurant where you can lie down! You're sort of sat in a big bed wish cushions and theres a little table in the middle- it was very cool and perfect for us as we were still feeling a little rough from the full moon party!
On the whole KohSamui as an island was a little disapointing. The beaches were white sand and turqoise sea but if you look closely the sand is littered with beer bottles and the sea has a film of suntan lotion on it. The atmosphere was a little cheap and touristy. After KohSamui's tourist touched ways we found possibly one of the nicest spots in Thailand (or maybe even the world!) in KohPhangan. We we got of the ferry in Ko Phangan we went staright through Hat Rin (where the full moon party was) we knew that in the day there it would probably be like Ko Samui or worse.. So we chose somewhere mentioned very briefly in the lonely planet book We had to get two tin cans and a little wooden boat to bottle beach. No roads lead to it and the only way of getting there is by boat. There's one tiny shop,a couple of bar/restaurant/lounge type places along the beach and a few beach huts. Past the beach it's just jungle. There were only a few people there and quite a few of those are people who have gone to bottle beach and not left. I can see how it could happen as soon as i got there i knew i was going to find it hard to leave. It was a tight knit community and we made loads of friends straight away. In the days we lay on the beach, ate lovely meals, swam and in the nights everyome would come together for a gathereing, bbq, games, bombfires. It was just a great chilled happy atmosphere. We were staying in a beach hut meters aways from the sea.
On our 2nd day a little 6 year old Thai boy- Po who lives on the beach came and found us. Once he'd found us we spent most of the rest of our days on bottle beach swimming/walking/collecting shells and drawing with Po. It was a nice change for me and emma as we have hardly any responsibilitys at the moment apart from ourselves and each other so to look after a child was refreshing. Luckily Emma didnt fall in love with bottle beach as much as me because if she had we'd still be there and i know theres still lots to see and we're running out of time in Thailand!
We left bottle beach this morning and now we're in Krabi where i think we'll stay very briefly as we want to go to Ko Phi Phi.
