It's one month into our trip today. I cant believe it's gone so fast! And im proud to annouce that me and Emma havent had one single arguement, not even a little one. I personally think we've been too busy to argue but I also think we've done a good job at compromising and taken time to learn to live with each other.
We've had a couple of crazy days in Thailand. Our first day in Bangkok we went to Wat Pho to see the largest reclining Buddha and the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. The Buddha is 46 m long and 15 m high! We wandered around a few markets and then went to Mahboonkarng shopping mall. Now this is no Brent X this is one hardcore shopping centre. Probably the biggest i've ever been to. Luckily me and emma have enough experience shopping to handle these sort of situations! We went a bit shopping mad which is not the best thing to do when you're a budgeting traveller! And of course throughout the day we ate. A lot. Probably about 6 meals- When in Thailand do as the Thai do!
I've felt a little bit lost in translation over the past few days. Communicating here is a lot harder than in India. It can be very frustrating not understanding and not being understood. It can also cause a few problems. As it did on our second day in Thailand.
We left Bangkok and started to head further North to Um Phang. Well that was the aim... However due to our lack of understanding the Thai language and the Thai peoples lack of understanding English and our general confusion on how the whole bus, coach and train system works here we ended up in Lampand. Lampang is not particularly near Um Phang if you look on a map. I guess Um Phang and Lampang sort of sound the same... Once we got of the coach and realised we were in the wrong place we got straight on another coach to Chiang Mai which is near Lampang and one of the places we have on our list of places to visit. In a way it worked out for the best because we got to the top of Thailand in a day and now we can work our way down. We're going to Um Phang tommorow. Lets hope we get there...
Yesterday in Chiang Mai we took it easy, explored a bit, ate nice thai food and went to a night bazaar. Today we went to a monastry called Wat U Mong. It was fascinating, filled with ancient stupas and had caves and tunnels filled with Buddhas.
One last thing something that none of you need to know but something that's been on my mind! I've noticed that in this country people pop their spots and pick at their black heads and their skin openly. In public! Today i was talking to the receptionist at our hotel and the lady sitting next to her was having a good old squeezing session. And this is not the only example I have... Now call me old fashioned but surely these things should be done in the privacy of your own home!!?? I'm sure I'll get used to it i got used to a lot worse in India. I had to share that. Apologys!
