Made some really nice friends in Queenstown, while Emma was away doing her hike. I went to watch one of them bungi jump from the first commercial bungi jump place in the world. Was incredible I felt scared just watching though! Went dancing at the winter festival with them as well which was lots of funny, got so hot dancing had to take my coat of in -2 degrees temperatures. But by the time Emma was due back I couldn't wait!! She'd made friends on her coach so we all went out the night she came back. Queenstown was lots of fun and if by some chance I come back to New Zealand (I doubt it but if I do it will certainly be in the summer!) then I will come back to little Queenstown.
Got a flight to Auckland from Christchurch and the got a coach to Rotorua. Rotorua was really cool, kinda weird because there were very few people I think it's due to the stinky sulpher-rich air. There were loads if thermal areas, steaming hot springs and exploding mud pools everywhere. We were also staying in by far one of the coolest hostels I've ever stayed in- Free dvd's. a dvd player that was always free, sky tv, internet, a clean kitchen, hot water, pool table, very cool decorations and not one sane person in the whole hostel… Kept us entertained. Over the four days we stayed in the hostel there were about 10 other people staying and 8 of those people live in the hostel on a permanent basis… There was a French woman who spoke hardly any English but insisted on trying to have a conversation with you anyway- usually when you're trying to watching the television… Most of the other guests said weird stuff, talked randomly, laughed at unfunny stuff etc. Eccentric environment, fun for a bit but I felt ready to leave there when we did! While we were in Rotorua we went to a Polynesian Spa for the day which was something differentbut like everything in Rotorua it smelt weird!
We're back in Auckland now and leaving for Fiji tomorrow. The past two days here we've both been ill and under the weather, spent most of the time falling in and out of sleep, getting up to eat, shower and go for a daily walk and then we're back in bed. Overall I have had a fun but very cold time in New Zealand and I can't wait to hit the beach in Fiji tomorrow. Flights at 7 in the morning so should be on the beach by the afternoon!! I'm thinking of wearing my bikini under my clothes on the plane so I don't waste any time once I get there!!
One last thing, I've been debating on whether to bring this up but… New Zealand folk- there a funny bunch of people. I don't really 'get' them. We certainly have a vey different sense of humour. Without wanting to cause offence they all seem a little on the crazy side…
Anyway can't wait to get on that plane tomorrow and let the summer begin
