We arrived back at St Pancras and managed to work out the next step which was the train to Gatwick and then a shuttle bus to where we picked up the hire car at the Holiday Inn office - a Honda civic - a later model but like I drive at home , great to have a familiar vehicle . Good to be driving on the right (left) side of the road again. We stopped at Chobham , found a B & B , had a great pub meal and turned in for the night .We set off for Liverpool and were pleased to be greeted by our special family on arrival. Quite a challenge to park the car, nice to relax and catch up with Tone ,Jason, James & Chloe. Enjoyed our evening repast at GBK (Gourmet Burger King) . Got some supplies from Tesco on way back to apartment. Friday we walked to the shops ,docks and the Tate gallery where we viewed a Turner, Monet & Twombly later paintings exhibition. We then left for the soccer team's match at Accrington Stanley. The team played really well in pouring rain. After the match we visited KFC and returned to Liverpool. Bed and a night 's rest was good for all. Saturday the boys had a match against Preston Northend. This trip was about an hour and a half away and to everyone's delight the Melbourne team won. We returned to Liverpool once again and went to the home of Everton to see a match against Southhampton. I really enjoyed my first Premier league game - Everton won! Had a nice M & S quick meal for dinner. Sunday we had a great family day and visited the very interesting Norton Priory. This was a medieval Priory in 1134. Archeologists began excavation of the site in the 1970′s. The Cafe, the Museum ,gallery, 12th Century Undercroft building ,excavated Priory remains ,the gardens (in the rain!) the Georgian walled garden and Ice house were all part of an enjoyable day . Evening meal we all headed out to a local sports bar in Liverpool where we had a local dish of Skouse (beef stew) served with pickled cabbage and beet root. Monday was spent mostly checking out the shops - how tiring retail therapy can be! So great to be with the family. Also nice to see (via facebook) the new addition of London the puppy to the junior Langton family,so cute! Tuesday to Thursday the team from Melbourne played 2 more matches and I think won both. Thursday eve they played Tranmere and the best part was when the "goalie" our grandson stopped a penalty shoot out ! Great game - I think it was better than the professional Bolton /Leeds game we went to. If the boys didn't have a match they went to training and we attended most of these sessions. The weather was not kind and we found ourselves wet through a time or two. The team pushed through no matter what came. In between "football" we managed to go to the Walker Gallery, The Liverpool Cathedral, The Liverpool Shop, M & S ,Next, Cath Kidston etc. Wednesday Phil & I went to Hattons to pick up a previously ordered model car and then to Frodsham to a model shop. After a look around the other shops and some lunch we returned to the apartment in time for the boys to go to Burnley for a match. Tone, Chloe & I had a 4 hr stint at the Gallery and the shops. Thursday eve we went to a Liverpool vs Uoinese Calcio (an Italian team) UEFA Europa League game. Much to our disappointment Liverpool lost, 3-2 .Friday we packed up checked out & set off for Tatton Park , not far from the Manchester Airport. We enjoyed lunch and a look around the Mansion which we all thought was exceptional . A walk back to the car park and playground and it was farewell to the fam and we set off for Rotherham.Text from Tone to say they were boarding - God speed family on the home journey after an eventful & busy 3 weeks.
