October 5th 2012 - We negotiated our way from Tatton Park through the outskirts of Manchester and drove across country to Rotherham . After some help from some would be actors who were happy to practice their Aussie accents on us we followed them within a few streets of our final destination . We went to reception with our Internet booking details only to find it was not listed! We then found that the previous owners had gone ( done a runner!) and new people had just taken over. Fortunately we got a room and a meal . Went to bed thinking of the family in Sydney and the others winging their way homeward. Prayers for all and a good nights rest saw a new day ,a farewell to Sandygate ,Wath upon Dearne and southward to Biggleswade . We found our gorgeous B & B in Upper Caldicote , not far from where the Shuttleworth Air show is held. Our hosts are fantastic.
After a drive around Old Warden - (photographs of beautiful thatched roof cottages )and checking out tickets at Shuttlreworth we settled down to cuppa soup and toast., tele, finance checking and no luck with the internet connection and bed in the cute upstairs room. On Sunday we ventured to Shuttleworth, Old Warden and enjoyed a great day there. The hangar displays of aircraft and old cars is a treat. The Autumn Air Display & Cold War Fast Jet Reunion was a wonderful event. The day began foggy but turned out to be lovely .
I visited the beautiful Swiss Garden and the Birds of Prey and conservation centre - both very interesting. I'd love to see the gardens in the spring or when the many rhododendrons are in bloom. After a great day of looking heavenwards, enjoying the flying feats we succesfully returned to our abode in Upper Caldicote . We returned the loaned chairs ( for which we were very grateful ) and booked for another another night in this lovely place.
Monday 8th October - My ,time flies. We have had a nice day visiting local villages and having lunch at a little cafe in Biggleswade which is run by the local churches - any profits from this venture go to cancer research . Had a good chat with the lady . They had a box for people to put requests for prayer into - nice! Wandered the shops and returned home to prepare to go with our hosts to Harvest Festival dinner at the local Anglican Church. After chilli con carne, jacket potato and salad, cheese & bics, and apple pie, we had fun bidding on the harvest festival fruit & veg.
After an enjoyable night it was back home to pack up ready for the morning departure . We said farewell to our hosts after a peek in their gorgeous cottage .
Tuesday morning a lovely Autumn morn we set off on the A1 toward London . After managing to keep clear of the M25 we wove our way in and out of many towns ending up in Farnham where we had some lunch and coffee . We then continued to Frensham along the A287. It was good that it was beginning to look familiar to us. There was a nice welcome at Pierrepont where we caught up with a fellow Nets 1 student, found our room ,unpacked and had a coffee and a wander around.
Tuesday we attended a Healing night and were happy to hit the sack afterwards. Wednesday sat in on worship with the Stage 1 Nets 31 group. Stayed for Bible study and Jill's teaching and joined her for lunch . It was good to have some time together.
Evening meal was Thanksgiving Turkey ( for the .Canadian contingent) very nice.
Thursday we drove to Ewell to visit an old favourite model shop of Phil's - Mick Charles models .
Had a great kebab lunch here and then returned to Frensham via Dorking and the Quilt room patchwork shop. Coffee at Costa and getting lost in the rain managed to get us a parking fine!
Oh well ,not happy Jan ,but what can you do except pay the stupid thing.
We arrived in time for evening meal of chilli con carne ,enjoyed same and went to our room ,read for awhile and then off to sleep. Friday packed up prior to 8 am and went to breakfast. Afterwards we attended worship, inspirational teaching on the blood and communion. What a good way to start the day. We managed to get some help to get on line and pay some bills which we were grateful to be able to do. We had lunch in Frensham at Cafe Rouge and then drove to Guildford.
We were a little delayed getting to our friends as the 'witches hats brigade' had been busy decorating the A31 so we crawled in one lane for a few miles. The iPad GPS got us successfully to our destination. Nice to be greeted warmly with a cuppa & catch up chat. We decided to eat out locally which we did. Nice meal of steak & veggies and ,caramelised apple crumble .We returned home to watch England beat an Italian team Hooray,
Saturday - I can"t believe the family left a week ago yesterday. Hope it's been a good week in Melbourne, Sydney and Sweden.
We left our gracious hosts David & Janice Cheale at Guildford mid morning today and drove to Portsmouth where we got the ferry to our next destination - The Isle of Wight - we'll catch up from there.
