Today we started off the day very slowly - we are tired and have hit the wall a little. We end up leaving the hotel about 11.00am for what we are referring to as "blunch" - too late for brunch but too early for lunch!
After this we decided to catch the train to Wall St for a look around downtown. We looked at the financial district (not overly interesting as lots of the main structural buildings are covered in work and anywhere interesting has huge security checks.) I really wanted to see the Wall St bull, so we sought this out and took some photos of it and Michael with it. Ironically it is at a place called Bowling Green, a cute little park trapped between two of the busy streets.
We then headed off for a walk towards battery park and the statue of liberty and Ellis island ferry. Unfortunately we didn't goon this but wandered around Castle Clinton (a fort in NY that has never seen any sort of military action, although it had space for many canons in the event that they were needed). It was a nice day to be out walking, however, we didn't want to walk too far and exhaust ourselves for the night we had planned out.
We decided to go to Century 21. The madness was too much for even me to handle. People were just grabbing at things and pushing each other out of the way almost. Michael just wanted to get out of there and I wasn't far behind him. I got a couple of pairs of undies and a bra and small bag and then we got out of their ASAP.
After this we carried on along broadway, trying to ind a station to go home. We finally found one at canal st, a good 24 cross streets from century 21. I would have loved to have time to shop in canal st, but we just didn't allow enough time. We decided that we would find a bar near times square to visit.
Not only did we find a bar, we found an awesome games place, where you can drink, play arcade games, win tickets and get prizes. I left mick there for a little while, and when I got back he had all these tickets. We ended up winning almost 1700 tickets in total, but could only get small ones that fit in small spaces as we have to remember that we need to carry them home.
We maybe spent a little too long there as we then needed to rush back to the hotel to get ready for our night time fun - going to see "Rock of Ages" (no comments on tea tonight - it was average). Let me say straight up, even Mick was excited about this one. It was about a small town and boy from south Detroit trying to make it big in LA in the 80s. The stage was well set for a great night when we got to the theatre and among the drinks to select from were jelly shots and shots in test tubes! And there was waiter service to your seat!
The music was woven together well - how did all these bands know that their songs would be put together in a musical in the 2000s. After the show we were pretty awake and woken up and felt like staying out a little longer. We ended going and playing ten pin bowls for about 3 hours at a bar/alley. I believe a good time was had by all!!
