Okay, so I've been a little slack for the last few days. We have been so busy in New York (combined with a little bit of tiredness). The days have been beautiful and we have been lucky enough to see lots of different sites (generally on foot - no wonder we are exhausted!)
Tuesday was the first full day we had in New York and we were up about 9.30 to start the day. We went and lined up for our New York Pass, which I had paid for a couple of days beforehand. The New York Pass is good value, as once you have paid for it you can gain access to about 70 attractions in New York, as well as getting discounts on shopping and dining.
Our first stop was the Intrepid: Sea, Air and Space Museum Complex. Although I visited it the last time I was in NY, there have been a number of significant upgrades to the facility. The Intrepid houses not only the history of the ship, but also shows some of the aeroplanes and helicopters that were used on board this ship. We also went into the submarine that they have on display. Not to sure about Mick, but I definitely couldn't be a submariner - the spaces are way to small and the amount of air available to breath is just not good.
After the museum we were going to go on a cruise, however, just missed the boat. We walked back to the hotel to re-charge the camera batteries for an hour, and then walked back to the ferry wharf to catch the 3 hour Circle Line Full Island Circle cruise. A man commentated the whole way around the island of Manhattan, providing interesting tidbits about the city, the past and the future. After the cruise Mick wanted to look in a golf shop, so we traipsed back towards 35th St (a big walk from where we were) and had a look for some golf pants. Since we were so close, we decided that we would go to the Empire State Building and SkyRide.
After stopping for a bite to eat, we headed up the Empire State Building. The first stop was the SkyRide. This was a birds eye view of NY narrated by Kevin Bacon. Was fun, but we couldn't believe that without the NY pass we would have had to pay $42 for it! We then headed up to the 86th Floor Observation Deck. It was a beautiful clear night to be seeing the city of NY. The beams that represent the World Trade Centre 1 and 2 were shining up into the sky in blue in memory of the victims of the attacks on the world trade centre. I will try and up load the awesome photo that our super-dooper new camera got of them later on.
By the time we wandered around the exterior of the observation deck, we were getting pretty tired, so we headed back to the hotel room for a sleep. We were stuffed and had planned another exciting day for the next day.
