At first sight we weren't that impressed by Phi Phi... However we soon found paradise!
After a day of travel, we arrived at Phi Phi on Friday. That evening we ended up in the Reggae Bar. Which isn't reggae at all! Instead it is more of a boxing stadium, with a ring in the centre where drunk idiots get up and fight each other, as well as the odd Muay Thai professionals.
Unfortunately the main beaches on Phi Phi are ruined from tourists and boats! Therefore on our first proper day we decided to jump in a long tail boat and head to a more remote beach. There are no roads on the island so boats are the only form of transport!
After a very rocky boat ride, we ended up on a beautiful beach.. Just as it started raining! Luckily the rain soon cleared and we got to enjoy the sun for a bit.
Sunday we went on one of the best trips of our travels! And it was pretty cool that Si got to join us on it.
The boat trip went to Maya Bay, where the film 'The Beach' is filmed. For those of you who haven't seen it, you should! It was just like it.
We arrived there about 5pm after some snorkelling and kayaking on the way.
Of course, it was beautiful! However we got to see it's real beauty when the beach cleared at 6pm and there was only the twenty of us from our trip!
About 6.30 we were served dinner on the beach. We sat on the beach devouring the incredible curry (possibly one of the best we've experienced in Asia) whilst enjoying incredible surroundings! We then got given buckets, and the guitar came out, before we were served our second dinner (a chicken BBQ).
About 10pm we were led through the jungle where we then had to conquer a rope ladder down to the sea... All after a few drinks! There, we were met by a little boat which took us to our big boat.
We had seen plankton before on another Island but it was nothing like what we saw on this trip! We jumped in the water with our masks on so we could see the glowing plankton under water. It was like a sky full of stars and every time you moved a limb, a trail of glitter followed...exactly like when Leo swims with it in the film!
Our bed that night was on top of the boat. When I say top I mean the roof... We made sure we had the best spot! There were no steps, so it was a bit of an assault course trying to get up there but was well worth it to sleep under the stars.
The next morning we were awoken to the sun rising in front of us, before being served banana and tea. I could think of worse ways to wake up on a Monday morning!!
Once every one had woken up a bit more, we headed back to the beach, which we again had all to ourselves.
When we headed back to the boat we had breaky. Once our bellies were full we snorkelled and kayaked in amongst some amazing scenery and bluest waters. There were no other boats around so early in the morning so the amount of beautiful fish around was amazing!
Unfortunately our trip had come to an end and we sailed back to the main island.
Our rooms weren't ready to check into yet as it was still so early, so we took the spare time to trek up to the view point! Hard work after a few drinks and not much sleep but well worth it as you can see from the pics.
As it was Sam's birthday and Si's last night, we all met up for dinner. This was followed by a few drinks on the beach!
As well as saying bye to Si today, we also said bye to Sam and Clare this morning who we have travelled with for the last two months! We are now in Phuket, just the two of us again. Stay tuned for the next blog :)
