We're back in Nadi after a week in the Yasawas. When we arrived from NZ we stayed here for two nights then booked the trip through our hostel-we had a 4 hour journey on a ferry-like boat to get to Long Beach Resort which is quite far north. We booked to stay at long beach for 7 nights but after it was quite windy on the first few days wedecided we probably should have bought an accomodation and Bula pass (unlimited travel on the boat) and done a bit of Island hopping. It was too late for us to change, but luckily the weather soon changed and it was like paradise again! The beach was really long (hence the name!), and the sand was so white and the water was so clear-it was such a beautiful place! The resort was normally quiet (I think the busiest was when there were 10 people staying), and on most days we had the whole beach to ourselves! The water around the beach was really shallow, but even after a few minutes with a snorkel we saw quite a few fish-some of them swam right up to the water's edge. One day we took a trip to the blue lagoon nearby for a bit of snorkelling. That was even better! The deepest we went was probably about neck deep when we were standing, but we saw so many schools of fish, some of them were bright yellow and bright blue and just absolutely beautiful. We saw some blue starfish too, and lots of coral. On one of the first days Sam swam out quite deep (while i chickened out and opted for the beach!) and he says he saw some jellyfish and more fish. The beach and the lagoon were quite sheltered, but where Sam swam it pretty deep and it looked like he was just in the middle of the sea!
Near the end of the week we were feeling a bit brave and decided to try some scuba diving! We got in a rickety little boat (with no life jackets) and travelled for about half an hour to Coral View resort, which was the nearest place to do Scuba diving. We watched a little video about protecting the coral, etc (ehich neither of our instructors must have watched-one of them scratched our names into the coral!) and then geared up and headed to the blue lagoon once again-we started off in the shallow water to practise clearing our masks of water and retrieving our air supply, then we swam out to about 8m and went down to see all the coral and fish. We saw a lot more than we did when we snorkelling and it was just so peaceful and so cool to be able to breathe underwater! When we got off the boat we signed straight up for the afternoon dive which was 12m deep, but as we went staright into the deep water we had to jump off the boat backwards, which i was dreading, although it wasn't as bad as expected! We went to the cabbage reef, named so because it has this massive bit of coral which looked like a huge cabbage. We stayed under for about half an hour as Sam guzzled his air up too quickly, probably because it took me about ten minutes to equalize when we started going down. That was even cooler, as there were even more fish gathered around the coral, some of them quite big! Possibly the biggest surprose of all was getting off the boat the second time to see Mark who we went on a tour with in Brazil and Argentina! Was the strangest thing in the world as it seemed like such a random place to bump into someone, cause it felt like we were in the middle of no-where, but it was great to catch up!
The rest of the time we sat on the beach, or had a swim or sat in the hammocks with a book. Our cottage ws nice-we had our own little bathroom and a sofa, and it was all very clean. The food wasn't the best but they served calke every afternoon so we were far from starving! Tomorrow we head back to NZ.
