AND THE REST... LONGJI (STILL SAM, SHE HAS A BETTER MEMORY THAN ME FOR THESE DSTANT DOINGS) AND ME TRYING TO REMEMBER GUILING AND HONGKONG (NOT A LOT REALLY IN COMPARISON!) ENJOY...
LONGJI...
Longgi- Rice Padis
The next day was another early start and we were off to the the country side for 3 days, we had to pack a small bag with enough stuff to last us for the days. This was pretty difficult for me and Tess but we managed it. We got stuck in traffic for 2 hours so arrived a little later than planned. We had to swap bussed at one point as well because it would not fit up the narrow windy roads and at this point we saw a pig lying in the middle of the road which looked like it was dying, no idea what had happened. After our second bus we had to get off and walk uphill for 45 min to get to our hotel. As soon as the bus stopped there was about 15 local ladies, all wearing bright pink tops and with really long hair. They were tapping on the windows, they wanted to see us things and to offer to carry our bags. It was slightly overwhelming, and as much as i didn't want to carry my bag I wasn't about to give it to an old women.
The weather was really nice there, which was annoying as we had packed lots of things for cold weather (the weather in China is really unpredictable. We had a guide for the 3 days and he was called farmer- well that is what we got told to call him, he was really small and cute and had a funny voice. He kept offering us oranges that his wife and picked and in the end we gave in and ate one. We had food at the hostel which was really nice and they all just chilled out and watched a film . The next morning we had to walk to our next hostel which was about 4 hours away and it was really hot, we got told at the start there would be 4 big hills, and there were very big and steep, it wasn't too bad of a walk though when we weren't going uphill. Me and Tess had to wee randomly on the way- we timed it well as people came past a few minutes after.
We arrived at the new hotel which was slightly better than the previous one as it had a western toliet. As soon as we arived we ate lunch and we ate lots as we walked so much. Then we sat outside all afternoon reaxing until the cultural show. The cultural show was about 8 local women who sung and danced showing us their local ways. It also involved us participating, at one point we had to play musical instruments, me and Tess opted for the easy thing that you shake. Next we had to dance in a circle amd stop people in the middle getting out and then we had to hop over these sticks, getting quicker and quicker, which is harder than itsounds.
Our final day in the country side we got a lie in as we didnt need to leave till 2 and didnt have to check out till 12. So we had a lie in ate a lunch and then headed down to our next bus via some market stalls where me and tess could not ressit temptation. After that we got a bus to Guiling.
GUILING...
here we were stranded for about 3 hours!!!with no map and no idea! lol. we all made it off the train, then had about 3 hours to kill here before getting our next train to hongkong, or sumthin likwe that! i forget! lol. o, excuse the typing again, this keyboard is especially bad today!
so we all came off the train and shirley was going to show us where the internet was, the photo place so me and sam could gret our vietnam visa photos dobne, and take us to sumwhere we could eat. only first came the phoo place and we just got left there while everyone else carried on. the photo ordeal was ridiculous. we were there for about an hour, maybe longer, some guy took our pic with a caamera sart on a stool then photo shop edited it. sams came out good tho shell tell u it hasnt! lol. mine looks like iv just got out of a chinese prison or sumthin! nasty! lol. they edited out my nose stud, necklace, earrings, and half an ear! lol. o god theyre horrendous, funny tho, a keeper! thank god they dont go on anythin i ever hav to show people! lol.we wandered aimlessly trying to find the others but to no avail. insead we just bought some fruit then sat by the train station for about 2 hours eatin fruit and havin deep conversations! and a wee cry from me! lol.
finally, cutting it fine, lol, the others appeared bit by bit and we collected our luggage from the trin station bit before gettin on the train. a bit of my bag had come off and was nowhere to b found, the same bit has sinc come off sams too! not that thats remotely interesting! lol.
HONG KONG...
we took the overnight train from Guiling, which was same old same old, not long before lights out this tme, and still far toomany naughty snacks bein shared out! we actually gotr off the night train at Shenzhen, then had to officially lave china, then officially enter hong kong, before getting a train to actual hongkong. i dont think that makes sense but im sure your not that fussed! it was all made very simple by the lovely shirley and we justall followed obediently.
in hong kong we got taxis to our hotel, ur last peek of luxury, the YMCA international house, kowloon. it was rather nice, as usual. nice big marbled lobby with swanky wine bar type area. o crikey, best not get used to this! shirley pointed out the laundry opposite, where we planned to go tomorro and the main road, nathan road was just round the corner. we were then given our keys and abandoned again til we met at 6 or thereabouts in the swanky wine bar lobby to all go out for our final meal!
during our spare time me n sam spread our stuff everywhere in our rooms, lol, showered i think, and got ready to go out. we went on the internet for a little while, i think, still unable to upload photos! had a wander round nathan road, then mt for tea!
everyone made a bit of an effort that night, i did as much as iculd with all my china fat in the way, lol. after a drink downstairs we decided to go to temple streeytt where the bight market was, for tea, shirley said lots of choice, outside and quite cheap for hongkong.
the food was scrumptiouds! it was all a bit fishy, n me, sam n patrice didnt want fish so we shared sweet n sour chgicken, eggplant n garlic, and beef n veg, o and rice. yum yum.
after the meal we stopped off at a supermarket on the way back to the hotel, to buy some alcohol, to go drink in shirleys room as a wee farewell party! gin, vodka, coke and tonic was bougt, no thankyou, i got wine n sprite. i thougt it would all get messy, it had been a while since drinking, and wine always gets me! lol.
we finished our clollection for shirly, and maaged to find a card not about god and saying thank you in englishfrom the christian bookshop accross the hotel. lol. all happy n jolly, more so with each glass, lol, we gave shirley her money n card and had a little photo shoot! lol. it was a good night, i think me, laura, terry, sarah n suzie were hit hardest, and bfore sleep me n laura both got poorly sick. lol. o dear. i went to bed just before sam, was happily passing out after id stopped thje room spinning, then gettin up to let sam in finished me off. sam fed me crackers (knows me well) and after a bit of vomit (sorry guys) i went to sleep and was blessed with a lovely hangover in the morning.
once left to ur own devices in hongkong we managed to get our visa application in atthe embassy plce, getr well acquainted with the subway, do a bitof shopping, go see the avenue of stars, see the synphony of lightgs show where the building flash in time to music! quite cool! we managed to book a place to stay for the next 2 nights and change our flightg tobangkok for free over the phone. our 'hostel' was pretty rank, not the 'nice room' the woman told us she was giving us, and in a weird dump of a kind of block of flats, very bizzarre, but hey, it had beds, a weird shower, see thrumickey mouse shower doors, and a tv! lol. o and not enough room to both stand next to our beds at the same time! lol. happy days! we also got the tram to victoria peak at night and see nothing but cloud, and i mean NOTHING butcloud. not evn a faint light of a building, it was hilarious, you are supposed to b able to see all the buidings and an amazingview...not this time! too cloudy. we were warned that wen we bought our tickets but by this stage it was too late, so we went anyway. lol. and erm, what else! ... o, we mastered the night market! check us out! we bought a few souvenirs! ands also thingsfor ourselves! lol. (all in no particular order by the way, im lost!). we didour last bit of shopping at ladies market and me going back to buy a dress id seen, we found ourselves a photo place to get our sds put onto disc then we packaged up a box and sent it home! so expect a package in 1-2 weeks (sams nan be warned! and lee n mel on mums behalf-dont rot through the parcels cuz they have presents in, but check out the photo discs near the top by all means!) we managed to successfully collect our almost not ready visas and we managed to fina a nice little restaurant/cafe where we had pasta for tea bfore our fight tobangkok that evening!
we collected our big rucksacks from the hostel and crossed the road to our bus stop to catch our bus to the airport, bumping into jamie as we crossed and saying a quick godbye. the bus journey was simple and we managed to find out our terminal to get off by asking a guy on our bus. lol. we get there somehow everytime! lol. and without problems we checked in, bought a drink n some sweeties to spend our remaning hongkong dollars, and boarded! we even managed to fit in a film1 death at a funeral, very funny, much better than cassandras dream which we watched the first 10 minutes of. lol. the flight was fine and we even got fed, chicken n cashew nuts, one of my latest china faves! lol. a weird guy wth big werd eyes kept staring at us from the aisle next to, and i kept making it very clear that this was not welcome! scumbag! at the end of the flight the same freak asked if he could take our picture, we said no, and asked why? he said just go with it, so we definately said no!!! idiot! he annoyed me! lol. bye bye feeaky bulging eye starring man... hope hes not at our hostel! and that was it, fligt over, here we come bangkok!
we enjoyed china and hongkong but it was a lot different to the rest of our travelling s far. the weather, changing every day, the prices, lovely! and the posh rooms booked for us, in fact almost everything booked and sorted for us, we were a little spoilt at times! o well.
now landed in bangkok, all on our lonesome to work ouut where to go and how to get there... no problems! we are fully fledged travellers now u know! 3 months at it! woo hoo! fingers crossed... xxx
