We took a bus from Vietnam to get here, again it was another bus full of local people and involved a border crossing so we weren't too sure what to expect. But it actually wasn't too bad we just gave the money and passport to the driver- all sounds dodgy but it wasn't. What was dodgy though is that they didn't seem to check our faces against our passport- oh well.
When we got off the bus there was lots and lots of tuk tuk drivers, knocking on the windows even before we got off the bus. Then we couldn't get off the bus for all the tuk tuk drivers- we ended up sharing with a guy who was heading to the same guesthouse. It was cheap here for accomodation which is always good- but no tv in the room which meant we had to go and socialise- lol.
We liked it here, it was a lot less busy then vietnam, quieter as well. The first night we got some food and we noticed all the children trying to sell books and begging. Then this one child came up to us and asked if we wanted to buy a book while we were waiting for our food. We said no and then he started massaging my back ( which I was really wrong) and asking i wanted a massage and i said no- he kept asking for a while all happy- then he put on a whiney voice and said he was hungry- we still didn't give him anything and then he said "f*** you, your stingy" - which we weren't expecting.
In the morning we went to the s21 ( Tuol Sleng) museum- it used to be a high school which was used as a prison. It was really interesting to see- you weren't allowed to smile and talk while you went round which made it more real. You got see the prison rooms and pictures of the prisoners and how they tortured them- it was horrible- especially as it was recent.
After he museum we went to the killing fields, this wasn't as hard hitting as the museum- but they did have the skulls of all the bodies they found in this big room- which was weird. As we were walking around these 2 kids came out of the bushes and started asking for money- they were walking in front of us and would not let us past- as you can imagine this was really annoying especially considering that we were at the killing fields. This went on for a while and in the end both me and tess ended up pushing the child aside ( not our proudest moment).
After all the sightseeing we went back for a late lunch and then it started to rain so we ended up just staying in the hostel watching movies- oooops.
