Next stop from Peurto Iguazu was Rio, Brasil. We decided to fly fro the brazillian side of the falls rather than face the 24hr bus trip...a good decision.
Rio was amazing. We stayed in Impanema beach, just round from Copacobana but safer and not as dodgy. We spent a lot of the time on the beach, sam loves the brazillian style bakini...and around that area. Rio was a bit hared to travel round as is quite spread out and lots of places you don´t want to go. The Favellas are huge and literally just down the road from the nicer areas. It is a city of extremes. We had a good tour of the city with "the crazy taxix driver" as he is known at the hostel we stayed in. He drove us all around the park to feed monkeys, to see the christ redemer statue, colourful steps in Lapa etc..good value. Another highlight for Sam was paragliding but he can write about that.
From Rio we bused to Angra dos reis and took the boat to Ilha Grande, small island of the coast just suth of Rio. We stayed here four days and it was beautiful! there are no cars on the island, and not very populated. Heaps of beaches and good food. We hiked one day over to Lopes Menzes which is claimed to be the most beautiful beach in brasil...was pretty cool except sam was not happy with the 2hr hike in 30 degree heat!
We were sad to leave. Next we headed to Sao Paulo, another 7hr bus, then slept in the airport until the next morning for our flight to Lima (5hrs). It was a long day, and arriving in Lima to find that it is a hole didn´t help, plus freezing compared to Brazil. Oh and sam lost his sleeping bag in the taxi so he is going to be cold on our camping trip!
Not a good start to the next adventure but will keep you posted.
