How to describe our first 3 days in Provence?Let me paint the picture of our time so far in this lovely part of France.
1.Female shopping paradise everywhere you look
2.Male driving nightmare(but getting better every day)
3.Culinary and wine extravaganza
1.The score so far after 7 days of travel.Male one purchase(trendy pair of blue suede shoes from Zara).Female purchases at least 20 items ranging from jumpers, cardigans,t shirts, confit de figues, cheese, tea towels, table cloth, chocolate, scarves, presents for kids,Maille mustard just to name a few.
2.Driving is very challenging to say the least.Wrong side of the road, manual car with pedals in the wrong order and crazy Frog drivers doing 130kms up your clacker on the Autoways!
Sally does an excellent job of reading from the travel book of the experiences and sights we are going to enjoy. She is often heard saying "look at that wonderful ruin or that beautiful garden" as we drive.I dare not take my eyes from the windy road. The male voice in the car called TomTom has been a great mate to have when things get a big chaotic and stressful. He never answers back and his voice remains constant and is never raised. Not once has he got us lost!
The 3 of us have seen some awesome sights in the last 3 days.Roman ruins in Arles,Daudet's windmill in Fonteville, the Abbey in Montmajour,Salon-de-Provence,flamingos on the Carmargue, the famous wine district around Chateauneuf-du-Pape,the stunning views from Bonnieux in the Luberon Valley,Lourmarin and of course Aix-en-Provence where we are based.
3.What I will remember most will be the quality of the food and wine.I personally have not had a bad meal and have enjoyed trying the foods from the various regions.Excellent French wine priced at between 10-20 euro is the norm. You can go to a cave(cellar door in French) and buy quality vin rouge for under 10 euros. The last 2 days we have eaten lunch from the boot of the Golf enjoying pâté,jambon, cheese, olives, baguettes and red wine out of a coffee cup borrowed from our room.C'est la vie!!
Le Pigonnet where we are staying is very famous having been patronized by the likes of Clint Eastwood ,Jaques Chirac and many others i cant name(there are photos everywhere). It is a short wander to the "Centre VIlle" where all the action is.
Once I wake Sally up,we are heading up to a great restaurant that I know we will find.................somewhere.
