Our last day in Paris... I have a brain wave... I remember i packed a black woollen skivvy to wear with an evening outfit. I wear it and actually get hot for the first time in Paris!!! We explore the Jardin des Plantes together and marvel at the age of the trees and roses. Some planted in the 1700's. The use of space is remarkable for the center of Paris as are the buildings there. Check out the photo of the hotel a abeilles, these are bee hives spread around the gardens. I explore the rose garden and the massive herb garden.
We get a cab to the Hostel d!Invallides. I leave Pod to explore this military museum, the resting place of the hero Napolleon. Dad says you would have loved this Ben, lots of guns armour and the history of all the wars of France.
I am heading to Rue du Bac to shop but I am so close to the Eiffel Tower I decide I can't leave Paris without clapping eyes on it up close. Walking through the area I find stunning little cafe's, and shops. The Eiffel tower is impressive, hard to imagine how Gustave came up with this architectural masterpiece.
I head off shopping and slowly wind my way back to the hotel, stopping each time it pours with rain for a quick vin rouge. Back to the hotel at 6pm with very sore feet and legs, I must have walked for miles. Pod is there having his usual early evening beers and tells me about his day. A stunning lunch at some cafe with some chef who has written 3 books. He can't remember the name of cafe or the chef... good one!
I have a lovely relaxing bath to sooth my aching legs (sadly no Baileys) while Pod goes out for more beer. I am putting my skirt on when he cracks his biggest gag for the trip... "why are you wearing a carpet out to dinner" what a wise guy! Lucky for him the restaurant I have booked for dinner is not as expensive as last night, it is just as fantastic but without 4 waiters watching our every move. This is one of Guy Savoy's restaurants, Les Bouquinistes. needless to say Pod has no idea who he is!! We choose the 6 course degustation and the food is simply stunning. A lovely last meal in Paris. Luckily the waiter recognizes the cafe Pod had lunch in when he describes it's location... One of Christian Constant's three restaurants.
Note to selves... Louvre closed on Tuesdays... Poor Pod, best to keep something to do next time we vist Paris!!!
