Well, yesterday snorkelling was fun. It started off being stupidly rocky as the sea was mega choppy, and it was pouring down, but we managed to survive. About 50% of the boat was sea sick and we were close at times but it was ok. When we arrived at our first location, Sandra reef, we went out for our first snorkel but it wasn't long before we were back on the boat. The waves we enormous and you know what strong swimmers we both are but even we felt outside our comfort zone. To top thigs off I was having problems with my snorkel as it kept letting in water but I couldn't adjust in the choppy conditions so we had to go back to the boat. We both felt like we really panicked out there and decided to stay on boat until after lunch hoping our next stop would be better. It was a pretty bad start! Lunch was nice though - it was a tropical buffet! We then moved to our next spot, Turtle reef, which was calmer. We saw lots of turtles swimming on the surface and then once in the water we snorkelled for about 1hour over lots of different coral and we saw lots of different coloured fish. The current was still quite strong but we were happy as we were seeing so much down under. It really restored our faith and we were glad we had persisted. We did take some photos using a waterproof camera so I hope they come out ok. We're going to get them developed here and then we'll send some home if they're good! The Great Barrier Reef is something special, we know that for sure!
Talking of photos, we're getting the next lot put onto CD on Saturday as we have another day trip tomorrow to Cape Tribulation. That CD will then mark the end of Queensland as we begin to move in land from Sunday.
We're still loving Cairns. We're just having a shop today and relaxing after the big day yesterday. We were in bed asleep at 9.30pm last night and I didn't wake up until 8.30am this morning - I think I was tired!
Well, as I said we've got our trip to Cape Tribulation tomorrow which should be good. We've got to be at the bus stop at 7.15am so it's another early start but it'll be good! Saturday is going to be another chilling day and then we move on on Sunday.
