Well, we're now in Mission Beach and it is GORGEOUS. The weather is super hot and the people are seriously laid back. It's kinda nice actually after all the cities etc.... You can't believe you're in the same country as it's just so different.
We had a long bus journey on Thursday which was slow. We think the bus driver was new as it seemed to take ages to get here. We arrived 30minutes late in the end but Larry, the hostel owner, picked us up and showed us around a bit (even though it was pitch black!). Because we were late, the bloody supermarket had closed so we couldn't get any supplies so ended up having a pizza - damn it! It was yummy after the long trip!
Well, yesterday we had a wander to Mission Beach, as we are actually staying on Wongaling beach, which took 30minutes but in this heat it's tough! We had to cross a creek midway which you can only cross when it's low tide because crocdiles tend to stay in there at high tide. How scared was I when Chris and Larry told me? Well, I ran across it as fast as I can and I'm still here to tell the tale so it's ok! Well, the beach was nice and there was a bit of centre (which is what we went for) but you couldn't really call it a centre as there was only a post office, a gift shop and a few cafes. We did find a good supermarket though, so we got a big pineapple, a melon and some kiwi fruits which are so juicy! I've made 3 fruit salads which we take out with our packed lunch each day. YUMMY or what! Well, we enjoyed a mango smoothie in the cafe and began to head back before the tide began to come back in and we enjoyed the stroll. The beach was so quiet it was fantastic. To be honest, because there's so many gorgeous beaches up the east coast it means that none of them get busy so it's fantastic. It was a good relaxing day yesterday.
Today has been lovely too. We got a water taxi over to Dunk Island which is a Rainforrest Island with a lovely beach. We hiked up to the top of Mount Kootaloo which was a 7km round trip and actually pretty hard in the heat but the views from the top were great. We looked over the Family Islands and lots of reef which was great. Honestly, I have to keep pinching myself when we see such views. I can't believe we're actually here. Well, we spent the morning on the island and enjoyed our lunch under a shaded tree on the beach and then got the taxi back at 2pm. We're now doing laundry (how exciting) and then we're having a early tea as there is an Aquatic Festival on this weekend which we're going to wander to later. There's supposed to be night markets and bands playing so we think it'll be worth a wander.
Tomorrow is going to be a beach day as it is our last day here. We're going to read our books and relax before heading to Cairns on Monday. We're looking forward to doing more snorkelling in Cairns so we can't wait. The Great Barrier Reef is seriously out of this world!
