Day started with a trip to the market to buy some warm clothes. It opened at 10 and I headed straight to the jeans section where I managed to barter a pair down from 500 yuan (£50) to 120 yuan (£12) - still definitely got ripped off but I'm awful at haggling cos I just feel embarrassed and awkward. Then went to another stall where I got a 'Colombia' jacket for around the equivalent of £15, thinking about it now I probably also got ripped off on that too but it was definitely worth it as it seems pretty good quality for a 'fake' and kept me warm so job done! I then successfully bought gloves which I can only fit up to the second knuckle of my fingers into...brilliant work sarah.
By this time it was about 12pm so hopped on the metro to Tian'anmen Sq... except I managed to go the complete wrong direction so instead ended up seeing the Lama Temple. I bought some incense outside to bring in as you're meant to burn 3 sticks for the buddah every time you pray.
After this I headed to Tian'anmen Sq and the Forbidden City with a girl I met at the hostel, except by the time we got there it was 3.30 and this is when the FC stop selling entrance tickets. At this point the girl I was with started being a bit off with me (I'd been with her all day) and just randomly walking off without checking I was there or waiting for me, but nevertheless we started walking outside of the FC. About halfway down a long road we got approached by a man cycling pulling a tuctuc and offered us a ride, and the girl decided to get on so I followed. After about 3 minutes of the poor man trying to pull us both along one of his friends pulled up alongside us and offered to take one of us and so the girl got onto his. She then suddenly changed her tune and was being really rude to her driver and saying she didn't want to cycle anywhere and next thing I knew she had jumped off and was shouting and swearing at him, so of course I jumped off and ran after her to check of she was ok and then she turned to me and shouted 'I don't want to f***ing travel with anyone, I came to china to be alone' and stormed off! So a bit gobsmacked that this 29 year old had thrown a hissy fit I walked off alone in a different direction.
I came to the entrance of Jingsuan park where I walked alongside a frozen lake towards a bit of a cafuffle as a girl had jumped off the wall onto the lake and a group of people were using a branch to try and pull her off. After all this I carried walking around and then headed back, half frozen, to the hostel. Day ended with a corona and bed!
