fri: after some walking around i found the right bus stop for the no. 64 bus. followed instructions on the guide map for the hostel and got there around 8. sorted everything out and went out around 12. real eye opener today. went to the food market - frogs (being skinned alive), birds and little animals(poorly kept) market and souvenir market. since arriving insichuan province and chengdu, the food smells have been alot worse. took around 3 1/2hrs. met 2 guys and a girl at hostel, a german, singapore and french. two girls wanted to go to hump bar to see a live band, but wen got there it wasnt the band they wanted to see. so we went for food and then they went home but i went to a 'pirate' bar. which i think was a gay bar...went back to hump bar, checked out the band and watched barca v real. walked 1/2 back home. got in at 12.
sat: slow chilled out day today. walked into town for an hr but just stayed in hostel. caught up with my room mates from chengdu. sat with them for an hr. went to walmart for food stocks. caught bus to train station. met a dutch guy richard whose on the same journey / bus to louang prabang with me. sleeper bus is one side single beds the other doubles. i was sharing with a chinese guy but we swapped so im next to richard. bus left kunming at 6:30. helped this japanese girl at bus station to get into town. she was really grateful -had that look like she just wanted to jump on me and give me a big cwtch she was so grateful. i would have let her, she was fit.
sun: long day! bed quite sapcious so managed to have a nice sleep. journey was pretty cool. reminded me of vietnam but not as steep. drove on the hills, nice views of sub tropical rainforests for hours and passing through minority villages. really nice. roads very bumpy. border control was fine, except they wouldnt give me change. but was only a dollar. visa cost $37. met chinese people on bus who bought us snacks, bus got into louang prabang at 7:30pm, was 25hrs. rich had room already booked so me and 2 chinese people walked around looking for hostel. past this house with kids breakdancing - quality moves, better than some ive seen on tv.
