tues: got into shanghai around 2:30. threw up in middle of night. metro was easy to use and hostel card i had gave excellent directions. its raining. unpacked and chilled out. wasnt up for going out tonight. played pool by myself in the common room while evedryone else played on their laptops.
wed: actually woke up feeling hungry so had breakfast at hostel then ventured out today. i went to the peoples square, just a green area that has the museum and urban planning builidings around it. i went to these 2 places. museum was boring and nothing really interesting. it was free. urban plabnning was interesting but i think thats due to my engineering background. cost around 40y. after that i walked up nanjing road west and down nanjing road east -where the main shopping st is. again nothing special, i guess similar to any uk cities highstreet. i then did a walking tour of the bund. buildings were very old 1920s-30s so the architecture was pretty cool but again seen it all before in every uk city. the view over to the pedang skyline was dissappointing. very hazy and misty. tried to go to the museum but was shut for refurb. went back to hostel as was knackered and feeling rough. went back out in night to take photos of night skyline. left hostel in flipflops and shirt as was ok. got out of metro and it was pissing down, thunder and lightning. on the way to bund i gave in and bought an umbrella. again skyline was poor. went straight back to hostel.

thurs: good breakfast today. sorted out my filthy washing and left the hostel around 12. doing the rest of the sights today. walked up through the french concession to huaihai road where all the posh shops are. stopped at the barbie store-7 floors of barbie merchandise. it was all pink inside and playing aqua songs. then went to the bund and did the tourist tunnel. just a tram under the river with funky lights. cost 45y. walked around a mall and saw the oriental pearl tower and jimao tower. got back to hostel, had a sleep as still not a1. ate about 1/2 my food. decided to go out tonight. went to a few bars. very expensive and these two waitresses asked if they could have a drink with me, which was great, but on leaving was told i had to pay their bill 100y, caught taxi home, broke. stayed up chatting for an hr to a couple of people, bed at 1:30. having really bad stomach cramps again.

fri: train was at 11. had a standing seat. but found roomto put my backpack on the floor and sat on that.girl gave me her number. met sophia at the station. bought ticket to beijing but earliest was monday night. went to hostel, fully booked, went to hotel, fully booked. managed to get a twin room but at 20gbp per night. then went out and met sophias friends. 2 irish guys, a slovakian and a polish girl. few beers on the street and then went for some korean food. early night.
