Its been a busy 8 days since my last blog. Internet here is a little inconsistent and we spend a lot of nights in free camping sites where there is no internet. We left the burgandy region and worked our way to the Alsace region where there is more wine and the cities and towns are influenced by German culture. In Colmar and Strasbourg we were just a couple of kilometers from Germany. The area is beautiful as is all of the wine regions. The small towns here were very German looking. We took the train from Colmar to Strasbourg as parking in the bigger cities is not a lot of fun. In Colmar we saw storks nesting and in one of the small wine villages Alice got to spend an hour in a 2 storey Christmas store. Anyone who decorates a lot for Christmas would have thought they had gone to heaven. After visiting some wineries and sampling of course we headed for the city of Chartres, just south of Paris. The weather wasn't great so we didn't stop to do much sightseeing. It was mainly farmland and cattle. The French don't waste a lot of land . They have amazing irrigation with canals everywhere and nowhere did we see anythying that looked desert like. Chartres has one of the most amazing catherderals in Europe. We were lucky enough to be there when mass was being held with about 500 boy scouts and girl guides. They had backpacks lined up everywhere outside the church. From Chartres we headed for Normandy where we are now. Our campsite is right on the beach. We were sitting outside in the early evening yesterday enjoying a glass of wine when we saw the most amazing sight. Two ultralights went over with a flock of geese following them in v formation. I thought it only happened in the movies. Today we visited the war memorial in Caen and the Canadian War Memorial at Juno Beach. It was very emotional and something everyone should see if they come to France. Tomorrow we are visiting more sights here and then we are off to the Brittany region where we will return the motorhome next week. Internet permitting I will do another update before we fly back to Paris. Take care. Au Revoir.
