Ok this is not really going to ba about the Bangkok but our ludicous bus journey to it. We got on the bus at Ko Samui at about 12pm and was taken by mini van to Nathon (the main port). I will point out now me and Janec are hung over, Janec more so and he gets sea sick so bear with me. WE picked up various people and at Nathon were put onto a big coach which took us to the car ferry port. WE got off to get on the ferry, and the ferry crossing was all fine. We got back on the coach. This coach then took us into Surathani and we were told by the man on the bus whos English was not great (and my Thai is weak lets say) that we had to get off and get another bus. We are not at a bus station just on a road, the man was ready to go we were like no you are staying here. He had to flag down the next coach we got on. We were with another couple who were aiming for Bangkok too. This coach waitied at the roadside for a girl then drove 10 monutes and after much confusion hand waving with a man who spoke no English we established we had to get off again. We were at a place to get food, and a lady there told us the bus would be at 7pm. At 7pm a pick up truck pulled up- not only was a little too small for the 5 of us but it wsant a bus. He drove us a block, not even that like 50 yards and we all got off again. Now we are at, what could seemingly be a westerner holding pen. There is a sense of relief when you see lots of western backpackers at least we are all going to get lost together. Here we waited another 10 minutes and if we wanted we could buy more food.
A coach came and we got on, it was a double decker, yay! The lady confirmed this is the bus to Bangkok. So off we went - at 5am we were awakened and all told to get off we were in Bangkok. A little bit dreary eyed we were confused, this was no bus staion we were all getting left outside a 7/11 in Bangkok and the bus left. WE managed to get to the staion for our next travelling adventure but bus journeys here just dont make sense. It must have been a weird kinda planning meeting I know to get there we can use 3 coaches, a pick up truck and a mini van with a ferry crossing. Hey but we got there.
When at the station we got our tickets for later that evening. So we went ad caught a film in Bangkok ( weird but we didnt want to do bangkok properly as we have to come back here later so we can get our Mongolian visas). The train journey was not as fun as it should ahve been as we had to sit seperatly and I had some mopey french people and Janec was next to a stroppy Thai teen. But we got to Chiang Mai. Yay! Only 2 days later.
