Hi everyone,
We are just catching up on our blogs so heres our Wellington lowdown.
To make our way towards Wellington from the National Park, we hit really bad weather, but still had cool views of Mt Tongaririo and Ruapehu. We managed to get as far as a place called Levin, where we decided to camp for the night in a quiet spot.
The weather turned really bad overnight and a tent took a bit of a bruising as the wind and rain came down, but we made it through to the morning :)
We then made our way to Wellington, surviving the drive through the ccity to get to our hostel. We managed to find it and park up and that afternoon took a stroll around town, it was a real nice place, had loads and cafes and bars.
The next day Wellington lived upto its name as the Windy city, it was freezing! We wrapped up in our winter clothing and strolled into town as we had to sort out our visa for Vietnam. This would take a few days so we had to wait for them.
On the evening, we wnet to another rugby match - the Wellington Hurricanes vs the Cheetahs. It was a great match, we had cool seats and had our beer and hot dog on a stick, but it was absolutely freezing! some people even had blankets! but the quality match warmed us up hehe.
The next day was a complete cahnge as the sun came out and we?got the cable car upto the botanical gardens and chilled out. On the night we visited the Observatory. we had been meaning to visit one in sydney, but never got the chance, but this one was awesome! we got to do night viewing through a huge telescope. we saw saturn and its rings really clearly! we also saw?other star stuff. stars really do twinkle :) (ruth)
Spent a few more days in now sunny wellington,?sampling the many cafes and bars that were in town (1 even had its own?on site brewery, which we saw)
After this city life, it was time to jump on the ferry to the south island......
goodbye from the North Island
