Greetings from Adelaide.....
Well, since our last journal, we have been on a bit of an adventure! After figuring out in Apollo Bay that we couldn't get much further using the bus or train, we decided to jump on a three day tour along the Great Ocean Road to get to adelaide....
Wow, what an amazing adventure we had.. The group were staying the first night in Apollo Bay, so we met up with them there, we we all stayed in an old school (but cool) lodge.
So the next day started early (6.45 AM!) where we jumped on the bus, stopping at Otoway National Park, where we saw a big (really big!) tree. After that, we moved on down to the 12 Apostles, were we took the plunge to make our first helicopter ride..
It was a deal, a steal, sale of the....
It was an amazing feeling as we flew out over the sea and worked our way along the coast, check out the pics of the 2 cool pilots on the flight... Whilst it was only a 10 min journey, we saw some amazing scenes.
Once back on the ground, after seeing more rocks in the sea, we moved onto Tower Hill National Park, an old volcanic area, where we saw our first sightings of wild aussie animals... We saw Kangaroos, wallabies, emus and last but not least the cuddly koala, it was so cool seeing them chilling out in the trees.
After all that excitement, it was onto the next step..... CHESSEWORLD!!
Here we got free wine and importantly, free cheese.... We got to try Curry Cheese which was really really nice, we both liked it! After all that tasting, we headed to our home for the night, the YHA in Port Fairy... Here they had the smallest dorms ever, so we didnt intend on staying long so we ventured to the pub with the gang, which was a good night where we drunk into the late hours and saw the McNaught Comet, which is currently shooting over SA. It is an amazing sight away from all the street lights.
Next day, we headed to Mt Gambier and the famous Blue Lake, which is only blue in the summer, in the winter its a greyish colour, its originated from an old volcanic crater....
On that evening we headed to Portland, our final night on tour, where we stayed in an old YHA that was a converted Manor House, It was huge!!!!!! We decided to do a group bbq and all chip in for beer and meat... the girls sorted the salad and ad and george were on bbq duty. after a few beers we taught our swiss and german friends the magic of bingo! THey loved it and after a few glasses of wine it seemed like the best game ever invented....
Final day, with us all nursing sore heads and getting up 30 mins late, it was Australia day! An aussie excuse for a beer and a bbq. Now whilst we were stuck on the bus, our very patriotic tour guide Laurie, played waltzing Matilda and good old rolf on the bus, which now sported aussie flags on it!
On this day we met Larry the Lobster, saw some cool sand dunes and went to an aboriginal centre. When we arrived at this centre, the centre guide was a little against the flying of the flags of the bus as this day was not sacred at all to the aboriginals, as they flet they lost there country on this day. We did a bush walk and ate some bush tucker, berries and the like.
Almost there to Adelaide now.... We crossed the Murray River on a boat on ropes between each side. Onc in Adelaide, we set up camp at our hostel in our 10 bed dorm!. This was the biggest we stayed in and was an experience....
As a final goodbye, we decided to meet up with the rest of the group, where we went to Chinatown for a great meal and then partied at The Cavern - Adelaide style....
So, that was the end of that tour chapter and we both had such a great time, made some good friends, had a great guide and saw some amazing sights....
Back to tonight... we have been in Adelaide a few days now and decided to move out to the beach - the town of Glenelg, which was a 30 min tram ride out of Adelaide. It's a really nice seaside town, the sun has been shining brightly today, we have spent the whole day chilling on the beach, topping up our tan (but using lots of suncream - 30+)
Tomorrow is a big day, start at 7.15 am for our Wine tour into the Barossa Valley, where we head to 4 wineries, including Jacob's Creek and then an aussie bbq.
THen we have the big Day out music festival on Fri 3rd Feb - including bands like The Killers, Muse, Jet, Streets and big aussie bands.
No rest for the wicked... on sat morning we head off in to the outback for a week to venture around Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the surrounding area, thats going to be some experience.
Thats us for now, Thanks for all the messages, keep posting them...
Missing everyone and we will update you all soon
Lot s of love
