13th Saturday October 2007- Byron Bay
Checked out of Surfers and said our farewells to the Scottish girls we had met (Penny and Emma). Rushed into town to take some photos of Surfers I was going to walk up the tallest residential building but ran out of time. Got the limosine back to the bus station (2 minute journey how stupid). Watched the film failure to launch which is a cool film weith SJP and Matthew McConaghey. Arrived at the Arts Factory decided we were going to like this place. I lay by the pool and read my book. In the evening we went to watch the film La Vie en Rose. Having no clue who Edith Piaf was it was interesting film. I would reccommend it maybe not you Dad, Mum will have to go with Lynne or herself.
Sunday 14th October- lazy day
Lay by the pool and at night went to watch the late night movie (10:30) Pulp Fiction was really surreal watching a film with people laughing at unfunny points. Also half the audience clapping or shouting out things. For those of you who do not know about Byron Bay most of its population smoke pot or certainly many of the people who were sat in the Arts Factory cinema had and do.
Monday 15th October 2007
Another lazy day lay by the pool. At 4:00 went on the Bush Tucker walk with Cockatoo Paul. Quite interesting learnt about how to get water from a tree, what plants to eat and how to use trees to keep warm. Now Cockatoo Paul has hung around with Aboriginal people and again has smoked a few drugs he was very entertaining and we all had a drink in the bar at the end. That night went to watch Bourne Ultinatum with Matt Damon who is beautiful. Although I have seEn one of the Ultimatums before I think there is 2 and really needed to have seen the others. However still enjoyed the film.
Tuesday 16th October 2007
Got up at stupid o'clock to go and see the sunrise at the lighthouse. The hostel drove us there so that was cool no walking in the heat of the sun. Saw the Sunrise which was amazing with humpback whales in the distance. Crawled back into bed at 5:30 and slept until 9:30. Got up ready for our day in Nimbin. Now Nimbin was a town made famous in the 1970's to hold some massive festival. The town was very quiet and I think the dairy farming industry was not making enough money so the locals said it would be good tourism to hold the festival there. They also agreed that the festival was likely to attract people who enjoyed to smoke. Somehow this town has now been created and smokin pot is more a less accepted. The police station is at the start of town and the police gardener quite readily sells pot over the police station fence. Its like Amsterdam but warmer. Quite an interesting town with a hemp museum and hemp embassy and a hemp bar.
The tour we went on was called Jims alternative tour which was brilliant. On the trip we passed through towns where he told stores and then had songs synchronized to the event. For example we passed through a town which as the motto " The cows come first" so he played raw hind. Then he spoke about Pink Ffloyd and played some of his songs. When we were going down hills he played roller coaster music. Which for my self was hilarious to see most of the bus grip onto their seats thinking they were actually riding a roller coaster. The tour was very clever and a lot of fun. On the way home we callld at Paul Recher's Hippy Heaven. This man I think was from Califirnia and had moved from America with a lot of other Californians to avoid fighting in the Vietnam war. Sounds extreme but if you saw his land then I know where I would have rather been. Now this dude must had had some money originally because he bought 28 acres of land 30 odd years ago. He now lives in a "house" next to the lake and lives off the money he gets from the fruit he sells. He was dressed in silk purple pyjama bottoms with teddy bears on and a orange shirt with I think dolphins on. Kathy and I decided not to go on his walk because quite honestly he scared the s#%* out of us. When we were getting back on the bus someone had made the mistake of asking him a question and 20 minutes later we were still stood there. He was talking about light and time and how today could be tomorrow. If you wanted to put children off taking drugs it would be a good idea to introduce this guy to your children. I was actually thinking of filming him and showing the video during one of my PSHE classes. This is what could happen! On the way home we saw Minyon Falls and drove through the World Heritage Forest. Got home had tea, read my book and went to bed.
Wednesday 17th October 2007- wrote diary and did yoga
I'm here writing my diary going to do yoga at 12:30 and Cockatoo Paul is doing his one man band show tonight. Tomorrow we are learning to surf for a few hours, yeah. However 2 days a go a woman was sea kyaking and was bitten on her arm by a great white shark in Byron. The tv helicoptor was out and everything. She managed to fight off the shark with her paddle. I think before I had been eaten by the shark I would have had a heart attack or certainly an asthma attack and died. Still going to surf because apparantly she was quite far out.! Better go speak soon.xx
