Monday 29th October 2007.- Museum and Bondi beach
Well I haven't done my diary for 2 weeks and the internet seems more expensive in Nz so my entries are going to be a lot shorter. To anyone who is not my family and is presented with my blog when they google Sydney this is probabaly a blessing. I did not realise the world could read it. Good job I have not bad mouthed anyone I met.
Kathy and I walked down to Darling harbour to see the Power house Museum. Kathy really wanted to see the Diana exhibition and I was quite interested. Managed to blag that we were students felt slightly guilty for lying but I have no money. Went round the first part of the muesum which was on modern art, inventions and designers. Fairly interesting but preferred the Diana exhibition. The exhibition had been created with the help of her brother Charles Spencer and concentrated on the fact that Diana came from Royalty herself. The focus was completely on her. The Prince's were hardly mentioned. The exhibition showed film of her from when she was little and had some of her toys, books and photos from her childhood. Did you know she was 20 when she married Charles and he was 32 and he Charles dated Diana's sister 2 years before her. The exhibition actually made me cry as it showed many of the cards and rememberance books from across the world. It even had the original speech written by her brother (the funeral one) and the first draft mentioned Dodi Fayed. We did pay a bit extra but it was something I'm glad I saw.
After this we got on he bus to Bondi. It was probably a bit too late to go but I was running out of days. Lay on the beech and watched the surfers. A fair amount of beautiful people which was both depressing and nice to watch. Pretty beach but doesn't really compare to Whitehaven on the Whits or the beaches in the Carribbean. Just did my washing that night not very interesting.
30th October 2007- The Rocks, The Aquarium and the Opera House
Got up early as I was meant to be going on a trip to the Blue Mountains but there was not enough people so it got cancelled. So this means I definately must return to Australia. Beccause I was up early trundled to the post office as I was worried about my baggage being over for NZ. (It was 20.5, thank God they did not weigh my hand luggage). Took a dress back because I realised that I couldn't afford it. Then walked through the Rocks which is the part of the town that was first settled in by the Europeans and the ex-convicts. Had a quick walk around the museum but rang Kathy to explain that I had not gone to the BM and did she want to go to the Aquarium. (I should have spent longer at the museum as it looked like it would be really good). Forgot I was at the other end of town (Sydney harbour side) and got the bus back up George Street. Missed Kathy but caught up at the Aquarium.
Staying at Wake up meant we got discount at the aquarium so we paid $19 as opposed to $25. Actually really enjoyed it even if there was a few school trips. I'm really not sure I could be a primary school teacher not that I am much good at being secondary but anyway. (little kids run and scream, which is quite annoying when you are trying to enjoy the beautiful sea creatures) Saw sea lions, seals, sharks, crabs, eels, coral and got to touch star fish and stuff. Not sure I would recommend it too everyone but the kids loved it and so did I. Raced back to the hostel as I had booked tickets for the Opera House.
Got down there and wished I was with Kath but there was other people sat on their own so it was fine. The play was a comedy the "Government Inspector". The play was about a Mayor and the people of the village who mistake a thief for the government inspector. They bribe him with money and gifts hoping he will not report them all to the government. However the thief who is more of a rogue and player manages to get away with it and in the process he sleeps with the mayors wife and daughter. It was hilarious and the actors were really good. All the characters were played by the two male actors. The whole thing was very clever and well adapted as a modern day version of a 19 century play. (I think it was 19th Century but I have posted the leaflet home so I have no idea). Packed for my flight and crawled into bed.
Tuesday 31st October 2007- Left Sydney.
I was sad to leave Kathy but excited about New Zealand. Left for the airport at 12:30 and the flight was only 30 mins late. Arrived in Auckland and it was not raining but it was cooler than Sydney. Got to the hostel and decided to go down to the bar as it was Halloween. Went to the bar on level 6 but that was closed so went to reception who explained it was more of a cafe and only re-opened for Summer tomorrow. So went to get phone credit, then quaued up for Globe Bar. Got asked for ID and told that only my passport would do. So went back to the room, quaued up again, eventually got to the bar and quaued for 30 minutes without getting served. Decided someone above did not want me out so got went to bed. Not a great start to Auckland.
