Day 5 and we covered a lot of ground. Left OKC OK this morning for the remainder of the mother road in OK and begin our TX leg. Saw a lot of old neon motel signs for motels that are no longer in operating. Passed through Garth Brooks hometown of Yukon OK. Stopped in El Reno OK to see a retired WWII plane. John and Bill explored it thoroughly. :) Visited a couple of Route 66 museums. We did a lot of miandering (not sure if that is how you spell it) weaving back and forth over I-40 to stay on the old alignment. We were able to experience the old cement road and you could see how the interstate cuts right through the old alignment. We are becoming seasoned 66 adventurers because we are able to read the road at times and determine when we need to cross over to keep on the alignment. Bill even drove us on a short distance on a closed alignment. Stopped for a late lunch /early dinner at the Red River Steakhouse. Had a good steak that was the right portion. Very glad for that since we are sitting a lot. John had his new meal of choice, grilled cheese.
The real fun of the day was exploring the Jerico Gap in TX. This will be a story we will have to tell everyone in person. Bill can imitate my reaction as we were traveling the old alignment. It is a funny one.
The last few things we checked out to round off our day was the leaning water tower in Groom and Bug and Cadillac ranches in Amarillo.
As a side note....you can tell its the weekend because hotels are harder to come by but we are getting lucky and finding Choice Hotels so we can work towards getting a free room. :)

virginia romaine Really a view of the way things were at least a little of it anyway. John will be bored here for a week but maybe he will want the week after the 66 trip to chill for a while. Drive safely. Luv u, Mom
