End of day 2 and we continued to work our way thru MO. A lot if small towns. Some so small you miss them if you blink. One town, Arlington is basically at a dead end road and consisted of one building and a couple of houses. Driving to Arlington allowed us to see the original I-44 along with the old 66 alignment. Meramec Caverns. Very 'cool' tour. Was a nice break from the heat. 60 degrees in the cave, 92 outside.

The journey began about 5 hours ago. Stopping for a bite to eat at the Launching Pad.

End of day one. Plan was to get though IL. Started in Chicago and saw both the start and the end of The Route before leaving the city. Drove the old alignment which most of the time doubled as the frontage road for I-55. Interesting however to drive through all the little towns. We saw a lot of trains along the way and new rail being layed down. John loved the trains of course. :) Tomorrow we get a jump start on Missouri and will be stopping in various towns to...
