Navolato
We were all up bright and early to get on the bus for the day at 7:30. We drove 250 km north to Culiacan to meet with the Director of Civil Protection. He wanted to welcome us to Sinola and discussed a lot of topics. He is the person who is responsible for policing, jails, fire and ambulance for the state.
We then traveled to Navolato to present the Fire Truck from Grande Prairie Rotary. The fire station was buzzing with activity when we arrived. The band from the music school was there to provide entertainment. All the donated fire fighting equipment had been cleaned up and was laid out on the tables. The truck had been washed and shined to be ready for this day. The ceremony was held in the station with local dignitaries and Rotary in attendance. The truck was then presented to the Fire Department by Fred and Henry. The Department is very proud of their equipment.
We had lunch at Isla Cortez by the ocean and presented the Fire Department with some momentos of Canada. Then back on the bus arriving back in Mazatlan at 7:00. We had quick showers before getting back on the bus to go to Martine's for supper. Paulina had selected a fantastic flower bouquet to bring along for our hostess. Mario, one of the Rotarians and a former mayor of Mazatlan entertained us by singing The Girl from Impanema in portugese, then New York New York and My Way in English. By then it was midnight and time to return to the hotel.
