The Parade
The bus departed at 7:40 this morning in order to get us to the vehicles in time for the 8:30 parade. Two Municipal Police vehicles were already there, as were the Vetranos and all their emergency vehicles. We drove around town with multiple sirens blaring and parked at City Hall for the official presentations. The Mayor welcomed us in Council Chambers and we went outside to present the keys. The trucks for Navolato and Jailisco left for their new homes and the Esquinapa firefighters happily picked up their breathing apparatus and turnout gear.
Our next stop was the Rotary Forest for the official opening of Allan Kuechle Park. It is a beautiful, wheelchair accessible facility with playground equipment and lots of small trees that will provide shade in the future. The Mayor attended as well as many dignitaries from Rotary Clubs in the area. After the grand opening, it was off to the Aquarium for a lunch with the Mayors wife. She then invited us to come back to city hall for a music event in the main square. It started with a band playing, followed by dancing and then a game of musical chairs for the women of Mazatlan (along with a couple of Rotarians- Viv and Tracey).
For the evening we all went out for supper to celebrate Pepe's birthday with his wife Lorena, Martin and Karla. A great end to the day.
